'Sarah Palin's Alaska' funnier than Tina Fey's 'SNL' skits?
Remember Sarah Palin's infamous turkey pardon gaffe? Well, that should give you an idea of what a gosh darn gut-buster her new TV series about Alaska is gonna be.
Word is the reaction from ad buyers to Sarah Palin's new Discovery series about the great state of Alaska is not so good ... it's great! If the show were a comedy. Which it's not.
According to Cenk Uygur (host of The Young Turks) on HuffPo, who had a mole at the Discovery Channel recent sales conference for ad buyers , the gut-splitting response to Sarah Palin's Alaska was not what the network expected.
Their source says "the whole thing [was] comical." This Discovery insider said, "When the promo was over, people (employees and buyers) were rolling their eyes, snickering, and even laughing. People were laughing and it's not even a comedy. No one took it seriously."
Maybe they all thought it was a Tina Fey "Saturday Night Live" skit.
Given the lack of interest (but wealth of laughter) from ad buyers, Discovery may have to dump the show to "a crappy time slot" to cut its losses. The final word: Folks found it a new low for Discovery. Bets are that the show will tank.
Sarah won't give an endangered wolf's behind. She's still gonna make $2 million for this potentially disastrous series.
As Uygur points out, the idea of having Palin host a show about Alaska's beauty when she drilled the bejesus out of the state is like "letting Jeffrey Dahmer host a cooking show for the Food Network."
Now that show we would actually watch.

Can you expect objectivity from Huffpo? For those of us who have visited this beautiful state which is the size of five large states combined and larger than some countries - they 'drilled the be...sus' out of a vast tract of frozen un-tillable, uninhabited wasteland in one part of the state. Alaskans are strong no nonsense people - so an audience of pampered Palin haters didnt like the show and think of Alaskans as ignorant rubes - thats the sort of bigotry and snobbery that they would be the first to put down in anybody else.
She is so nasty, poor thing thinks she is Oprah, Oprah's Life is great, but doubt this trash will have a good show. Only show she should be on is on vh1 with her trashy family.
Hang on a second - I thought this show was being made for TLC, not Discovery. I Googled and learned that TLC is owned by the same company as Discovery, but that's like saying such-and-such is on NBC when in fact it's on Syfy (a channel owned by NBC). Re:Maria - you need to reread this again. No one was laughing at Alaska. Alaska itself is fine and deserves all the positive exposure it can get. They're laughing at Palin who has single-handedly created about a dozen negative stereotypes for that state.
She is nasty, poor thing thinks her show will be good like Oprah's Life. Only thing she should be on is on a show on vh1 with her trashy family.
@Maria - I think you got a little more out of that article than I did. What I read was that potential sponsors of a show about a woman determined to destroy the great state of Alaska laughed at her and her show.
No one thinks the people of Alaska are rubes. In fact, most of us in the lower 48 admire the majority of Alaskans for being tough enough to live there.
And, lastly, most of us in the lower 48 realize the beauty and majesty of that state and want to see it preserved. Therefore, a show about 'Sarah Palin's Alaska' seems counterproductive given her track record on wildlife conservation and land preservation. The statement you make about it being 'a vast tract of frozen un-tillable, uninhabited wasteland in one part of the state' reveals that you probably feel the same way about conservation and preservation. So it isn't surprising that you would stick up for her and her farce of a show.
@Maria- Seriously?
"Sarah won't give an endangered wolf's behind. She's still gonna make $2 million for this potentially disastrous series."
Hence the green-eyed animus.
"Maybe they all thought it was a Tina Fey "Saturday Night Live" skit."
Crickets would have been heard chirping in the background if that were the case.
"As Uygur points out, the idea of having Palin host a show about Alaska's beauty when she drilled the bejesus out of the state is like 'letting Jeffrey Dahmer host a cooking show for the Food Network.'"
Really? Don't seem to recall any drilling in ANWR over the last decade. Must have missed that.
Rumor monger and mislead much, Ms. Sneers?
I suspect this show will have a built-in fanbase of those who think Sarah Palin is a gifted politician, should be our next president and are bummed her ticket didn't win in '08. The frightening thing is, there are a lot of 'em out there in the heartland.
If 4 million mouth breathers will watch "Pawn Stars" and 20 million will watch a glorified karaoke show, is there any doubt Palin's Alaska will be a big hit? Nobody ever lost money underestimating the taste and intelligence of the American public. If I'm an advertiser, I'm in!
