PETA: Bea Arthur from the grave vs. McDonalds

bea-arthur-peta.jpgAlmost exactly a year after her death, Bea Arthur is making waves again by appearing in a PETA ad that aims to end McDonalds' "cruel slaughter practices." The ad, which is addressed to "McCruelty," features an iconic photo of Arthur from her days as one of the "Golden Girls," giving her trademark disapproving glare.

In life, Arthur was named an Honorary PETA Director. Dan Mathews, PETA VP, tells the New York Times that the ad was financed by money Arthur left to PETA in her will. Before running the ad, he got the OK from Arthur's son, Matt Saks, "who especially liked that the copy was in Bea's irreverent voice," Mathews says.

The copy is not only in Bea's voice, but in "Maude's." "God'll get you for that," the ad reads.

Carina, exactly how old are you? Still not old enough to check your facts? Maude was Bea's character on Maude. Dorothy was Bea's character on Golden Girls.

Now, let's see if you know which show Bea actually uttered the "God'll get you for that" phrase. I'm guessing you really don't know.

I just re-read your copy, Carina, and I'm even more embarrassed for you than I was two seconds ago. You clearly have NO CLUE as to the characters or phrases associated with either Bea or her two series. In fact, I venture to say you didn't even KNOW she starred in a comedy called "Maude."

RIP Bea you are missed! :)

Another 12 year old gets paid to write something without an editor, meanwhile real journalists are being laid off.

Thanks for the heads' up, guys! Should've drank my coffee this morning. I've edited the article - and to answer your question, I'm 23, both shows were sort of before my time. :)

Good for them, personally i stopped eating Mcheartattack almost 2 years ago..and i don't miss it at all. But in reality its not just McDonalds
that does this, Burger King, Wendys, Taco Bell, Jacks, Poppyes, ALL of them get their meat from places that are cheap and treat animals beyond cruel. Kenntucky Fried Chicken is THE WORST OFFENDER of them all, they cut the beaks off their chickens, keep them on feeding machines that pump them full of food and drugs, then are killed and sold and then PUT IN YOUR MOUTH! Ever notice how small KFC's chickens are and how hollow the bones are? Its from how they are raised.
DISGUSTING!!

Its just chicken baby......Now go step on a roach.....

I love Bea, but it's too bad that she left money to a marketing organization, instead of a group that actually helps animals.

I've stopped eating fast food altogether because of the deplorable conditions the animals are kept in and how they are treated. Cruelty to animals is a cowardly crime. I'd love to see the cows and chickens go berserk and get revenge. That would be sweet. Even in death, Bea Arthur is helping make a difference to better the lives of our animal friends. Classy lady, that one. Rest in peace. You are missed, Bea.

Gimme a break!

Quit whining about some 'poor' animal. They are there for ONE thing: to FEED HUMANS. Now I'm going for another Double-Down...
