Lane Bryant: Ashley Graham ad too busty for TV or a publicity bust?

lane-bryant-ashley-graham.jpgLane Bryant claims that ABC and FOX are size-ist for not wanting to air its latest Cacique lingerie ad, which features the plus-sized model Ashley Graham.

The commercial shows Graham in a bra and panties checking her phone, which reminds her to "Meet Dan for lunch." After primping in her lingerie, she leaves for her appointment with Dan wearing nothing but the lingerie under a trenchcoat. Lucky Dan!

Lane Bryant claims on its Inside Curve blog that ABC and FOX found this ad too racy and "made the decision to define beauty for you by denying our new, groundbreaking Cacique commercial from airing freely on their networks" during "Dancing With the Stars" and "American Idol."

The only problem with this complaint? ABC and FOX did accept the ad. So Popeater poses the question: Is all this ruckus just a publicity stunt or does Lane Bryant have a legit complaint?

The clothing retailer says that yeah, the two networks did accept the ad ... eventually, but hasn't treated it like other commercials featuring skinnier models.

FOX asked for Lane Bryant to re-edit the ad three times deeming it had "too much cleavage" before finally accepting it to air on the April 28th episode of "Idol." Lane Bryant claims that the network has already run similarly racy ads for Victoria's Secret and Playtex and that the treatment of the Lane Bryant ad is a double standard. FOX has fired back saying that it has required similar edits from the Victoria's Secret commercials it airs.

Meanwhile, ABC felt it wasn't appropriate to air until the last minutes of "Dancing With the Stars." Appropriate? "These are the same networks that have scantily-clad housewives so desperate they seduce every man on the block," writes the Lane Bryant blogger.

Do you think Lane Bryant is just seeking publicity? Or are its complaints legit regarding the curvy ladies?

What kills me is that these women are called "plus size".

There is nothing plus size about this woman other than she has large breasts. No one calls Pam Anderson "plus size" for that fact.

When are we going to stop calling size 0 women normal, and these women plus? These are healthy, sexy women... not the super-skinny rib-showing women that end up on TV and that most clothes are made for

What hypocites the network execs are!!!! Have they watched what the DWTS ladies wear on that show? Other skinny models and half the guest stars on Idol, SYTYCD and prime time dramas can be viewed wearing less. Oh,I do object to one thing in the ad....Mom's DO wear sexy lingerie too!!! There are plenty of us out there with curves who want pretty and sexy choices that look good on us! Bring it on!!!

Idiots banned this????
Have they seen their OWN PROGRAMMING!!!!! dancing with the stars is worse!

They did get one thing right.
This lovely lady is HOT....

Ever hug a 0 size gal, like a bag of coat hangers. I like a woman with a little more hang onto!

No controversy, no malfunction, no exposure. You see more on soap operas, award shows, DWTS, exercise shows and many network shows. You see more on the beach. A bikini is no different...just less lace. Who are they "protecting"?

Plus size?? OMG! These network execs are happy to show murder and catastrophe victims in the street, bombings, and provide media coverage for militant nuts trying to destroy the country, but THIS gets censored? Any straight man I know would very happy to have that girl in his phone contacts.

OMG! For a plus-sized lady like myself, this girl is almost thin! She's beautiful and the victoria's secret commercials are much worse! I think it is wonderful that Lane Bryant is actually saying it is ok for plus size women to wear sexy lingerie instead of being frumpy. I mean really, if it was for an african-american line of lingerie, ABC and FOX would be sued over this! What's the difference? Size 0 is not the norm. Ashley is beautiful and a real woman... not some anorexic idiot! I mean really Fox and ABC.. the only thing inappropriate is your standards!

This ad is not racy at all. ABC and FOX are full of sh**!! There was nothing racy about that commercial. I liked it very much. Its a shame the networks say its too racy because of a curvaceous woman is in it but if it were those stick figured girls in Victoria's secret they would have said nothing. They are size-ist indeed!!! They would considered a woman like Ashley fat and a a stick like those Victoria Secret models healthy. That is backwards and to comment above...Ashley is not plus size as you said and Pam Anderson is just a stick with big fake ***** and noassatall.

They got exactly what they wanted and sites like this gave it to them.

A good ad proliferates by word of mouth and all ad companies strive for that. You've taken the bait!!

Who was ABC protecting by not airing this ad until it was "appropriate"? WHO did they think might object to it? Methinks it's actually the Hollywoodized network SUITS who consider this zaftig lady to be offensive-looking.

Fox said "too much cleavage"? This is the most ludicrous, laughable comment EVER to come from an American entertainment company.

Daamn, i love the curves. anyone else have more pictures of her??
