Jennifer Knapp comes out. Jesus still loves her but will fans?
Ending a seven year hiatus from the music scene, Christian singer Jennifer Knapp is back with the mainstream album "Letting Go" and an announcement: She's gay.Much of the past decade has been spent in Australia, where the Grammy nominee took stock of her life and career and figured out what was needed to start over. She also came to terms with her sexuality.
Whether her old fans have moved on or will forsake her remains to be seen, although she admits not trying to return to her old recording stomping grounds should help.
"I just wouldn't find it respectful at all to say, 'Hey, this is something that you want in your store next to your Jesus statue,'" she tells Reuters, regarding her new album. "It would just be disingenuous to try and convince someone that they needed to do that."

"we can live without sex, but we cant live without love." - Shane Claiborne
so. her fans should love her. everyone is broken, no one is perfect. our purpose is not to condemn or judge if she needs to be challenge allow those who love her and whom she trusts to challenge. we are called to love like Jesus loves and in our personal relationship with him everything else (and everyone) pales in comparison.
One only need to visit Jenn's Facebook page to get the answer to this interviewer's question - except for a rare few who would use the Bible to justify their own prejudices, the fan response has been overwhelmingly positive.
Comment number 1!! Beautifully said! Thanks!
We can agree on loving her, since we should love all our neighbors regardless of their sin (as difficult as that may be). That said, I don't have to "approve" of her sin. If someone came out and said "hey, I'm an alcoholic", my obligation is to not judge, but I can sure recommend they stop their lifestyle and point them to the fact that Jesus died to free them of their sin, not to approve of it. Actually, I can argue that my approach is MORE loving than to not share God's truth with them. Prov 27: 5,6.
LJ I agree with you that we should not 'approve' however I think that a comment on a blog, a facebook note, or a verbal reprieve to others is not how you or I can react- she does not know us, trust us, value our opinion and more than likely will get to engage in any discussion. Therefore, I will be praying for her and the people the Lord placed in her life to do life with her.
Why do people compare building a life with someone you love with being an alcoholic? Seriously? That makes no sense. At all. Why in the world would loving someone you're attracted to be a sin? This is not something to be approved or disapproved. It's something that should be celebrated like anyone who is happy in their life. Conservative Christians baffle me to no end.
So..... in knowing that being gay isn't a choice (if it were then the animal species that have been scientifically identified as "gay" have choice?) .... would I make the comment that if someone was Black or Asian that I can love them but not their "Asian-ness"?? Doesn't make sense.
your so called scientist think a couple of rocks exploed and poof 1st monkeys then men? so gay is sin and Jesus say hate sin, But love the sinner. Dont call your self a follower of Jesus and not belive the BIBLE the whole Bible sin is sin.You cant change race so quit comparing that to being gay. Some people like little kids in that way should you except that perversion also cuz thats how they feel? I think not.Read your Bible in the last days evil will talked about as good.
mike, you seem real smart...NOT!!!!
Mike - gay isn't sin - Jesus didn't even mention it. But I guess YOU know more than him.
Comparing race and sexuality doesn't make sense. Neither does an act that has a victim, pedophelia, and an act between consenting adults.
But the state of being straight/gay is more in line with race because there is no harm and it's quite innate.
