'Gossip Girl's' Chace Crawford backs out of 'Footloose'
Why can't "Footloose" find someone to fill Kevin Bacon's dancing shoes?"Gossip Girl's" Chace Crawford is the latest star to back out of the lead (a role he reportedly pursued) for the remake of the 1984 classic. Zac Efron was previously attached to the role, but decided that would put him one too many musical movies towards being typecast.
Crawford, however, blamed his decision to bail on his busy "Gossip Girl" shooting schedule. "GG" production is supposed to resume in July, which is around the same time the "Footloose" production is scheduled to get underway.
So now that two stars have called it quits, casting is likely to change directions altogether.
Sources tell EW that Paramount might launch a nationwide search for an unknown to take the title role.

Nationwide search is a good idea, that's what they did for "Gone with the Wind" as I remember
This must be one huge flaming **** of a movie. First Zac, now Chace. However, if their reasons for leaving are true, Chace would be wise to ditch 'Gossip Girl' and look toward a movie career. GG is a sinking ship. Creatively, it has nothing left. It's awful and the ratings are in the toilet.
I'm all for a nationwide search for the lead role. Perhaps they can even make a reality series out of it!
