Dixie Carter: What caused her death? [UPDATED]
As Zap2it reported, legendary actress Dixie Carter, most known for roles on "Designing Women" and "Different Strokes", died Saturday morning (April 10). Husband Hal Holbrook's publicist first confirmed her passing and the family released a statement asking for privacy in the wake of this "terrible blow. "
"This has been a terrible blow to our family, and we would appreciate everyone's understanding that this is a private family tragedy - thank you."
But what everyone --- including The Dish Rag -- can't help but wonder is what caused her untimely passing? 70 is relatively young. Was she ill?
It doesn't sound like it because if she had been fighting cancer, wouldn't they have been somewhat prepared (not that one can ever be prepared for the loss of a loved one) for her death?
Perhaps the cause of death was simply sudden, maybe an accident, heart attack, or a fall, and not a complete shock. Anything else would be too sad for a lady so full of life.
But the family has asked for privacy so all we may ever know for sure is that the world has lost a great actress, an amazing classy lady and Hal has lost his beloved wife and their daughters -- Mary Dixie and Ginna -- have lost their mom.
Deepest, deepest sympathy to her family, friends and fans around the globe.
[UPDATE]: As Dish Rag readers pointed out, The New York Times now reports that Dixie died in a Houston hospital from complications of endometrial cancer.

Very sad no matter the cause. My heart goes out to her loved ones.
There's really no rush to find out. I feel we should let the family grieve and when the autopsy report is made public..we'll know.
For now, let's give them space.
At her age it could be sudden cardiac arrest, sudden aneurysm, no one is immune even if they are in excellent shape--it's mainly heredity in that case.
She was awesome--I know the family will miss her dearly.
My sympathy to Hal, Mary Dixie and Ginny. Dixie Carter was a beautiful and talented actress. She will be missed.
It was just reported on NBC news Sunday (Lester Holt - anchor) that Mr. Holbrook said Mrs. Carter's death was caused by cancer.
The New York Times is reporting that she died in a Houston hospital from "complications from endometrial cancer."
A Washington Post story April 7 on the title role of a Michael Kahn's Shakespeare Theatre Company production said "Dixie Carter, who was originally cast in the role, is recovering from surgery and can't be ready for rehearsals in May."

World News on CBS reported that Ms. Carter died of complications from uterine cancer. This was 3:30 PST.
Yes, one would think she could have had things removed before that happened if known ahead of time which maybe it wasn't.
She brought me a lot of pleasure over the years from her work. A huge loss to her fans as well as her family.
