'Desperate Housewives' divas declare: Marc Cherry hasn't hit us; set is heaven

desperate-housewives-issue-joint-statement-marc-cherry-nicollette-sheridan.jpgThe cavalry has arrived. The core group of "Desperate Housewives," Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria Parker, Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross have banded together to support Marc Cherry against the onslaught of rumor-mongering, finger-pointing and all around tom-foolery surrounding Nicollette Sheridan's accusations against the show's creator.

"It would be irresponsible of us to let the public believe that being a part of this show from its inception has been anything but a blessing," reads the housewives' statement according to Access Hollywood.

The statement continues with, "We have no first-hand knowledge of what Nicollette may or may not have experienced, but we would never characterize our set as a hostile environment. It is, in fact, the opposite. The friendships and support that Marc Cherry, the cast, the crew and the producers have shared for the past six years have made this a wonderful job that we are grateful for every day."

OK, but how grateful is Hatcher? After all, she was actually named in Sheridan's suit as having reported an incident with Cherry to the network. Apparently, she's very grateful.

"I have never felt discriminated against," says Hatcher. "In fact, I have felt heard and respected by Marc and other executives in regards to both my professional and personal needs."

Their statement seems to jive with costar Brenda Strong, who plays Mary Alice and the narrative voice of the show. She told Zap2it that she found the allegations funny and said, "It doesn't make sense. Two and two don't add up."

Sheridan filed her lawsuit last week in Los Angeles Superior Court. She is suing Cherry for assault and battery, gender violence and wrongful termination for damages totaling more than $20 million.

Sheridan's attorney issued a statement the next day stating they "expect the case to be hard fought, and it will not be a surprise if ABC and Mr. Cherry try to depict Nicollette as something other than a team player and long-standing industry professional."

Are you relieved the divas have let us know where their loyalties stand?

This is complete garbage and they just sold poor Nicolette Sheridan down the river. Shameful.

What you have is 5 actresses in Hatcher, Parker, Strong, Huffman and Cross who are worried about their careers. 4 of them are in their 40s, a danger age for women in Hollywood (which is what makes Sheridan's lawsuit so incredibly gutsy) and a 5th actress, Eva Longoria-Parker, who ay not be in her 40s, but spends every waking moment being photographed at basketball games and red carpet events as much as humanly possibly to make sure and stay relevant.

Everything I've read including seeing Marc Cherry's behavior on interviews, is he comes across as an angry, excessively arrogant individual, who runs a piece of garbage show aimed at lonely housewives.

Shame on these actresses for stabbing Sheridan in the back in order to protect their butts on this terrible show. Why should any of us be surprised? Look at all the women out there defending a snake like Kate Gosselin, who's busy pandering like vermin for an extra 15 minutes of fame while her 8 children grow up without a mother.

I imagine their loyalties lie with the guy who signs their paychecks.

I don't believe Nicollette dreamed this up out of thin air.

I love reading comments from people who have no idea what they're talking about. David, you're just a joke. You weren't there. You don't know these people. All we have is a series of allegations and their denial. And now you've concocted some grand idea of what really happened when you have NO CLUE. Just do us all a favor and STFU. You're no expert.

JettaJameson, what makes you he expert? You have no idea what is going on either, so I don't think you have any right to put down other comments. So I'm going to have to ask for you to please STFU. What an arrogant hypocrite.

Exactly, Tom. Or should I say David? I'm not an expert and I don't know what is going on. Which is precisely why I haven't attempted to weigh in on the situation itself. It's a classic case of he said/she said/they said. Reading anymore into it is just stupid, as your, I mean David's entire post was. So, what's your deal? Reading comprehension not your strong suit?
