David Duchovny is 'kind of stupid' about gadgets. Hold the iPad

David Duchovny is not a techie. Or a computer whiz.

The Dish Rag caught up with former "X Files" and current "Californication" star this week at the premiere of his new film, "The Joneses."

The "Joneses" is a fascinating, funny (and not so far-fetched) look at a neighborhood extension of celebrity endorsement and stealth marketing of everything from cars and clothes to high tech gadgets.  (Watch the trailer here!) So naturally we wanted David's take on the hot new must-have techno-tool, the iPad.

Does  he have one yet? Nope.

"If I say I like an iPad, will I get a free one?" he wondered. "Truth be told I'm kind of stupid when it comes to gadgets. I'm not really a gadget guy."

But his kids are amazing on the computer. "My daughter (West) is like a magician on it. My jaw drops open when she's on it.  If anything ever goes wrong on our computer, both Tea and I call West - she's 10 - to fix it and she does it, she knows.

What's next for his character Hank Moody on "Californication?"

"Both Tom Kapinos (creator/writer) and I know where we want the character to go. We have the same vision where it ends. This past year he went down as far as he can go, he was in prison. This year it's him climbing back up. I never get involved with the story-telling and that's why the show is so good.  From the beginning, I let Tom do it and he does it so well. I act. I'm on the set. He writes it."

Their work ethic seems to be working out just fine.
