Cameron Douglas sentenced to five years for drug charges

cameron-douglas-michael-douglas.jpgDespite his father Michael Douglas' five-page letter to the court explaining his son's family problems, Cameron Douglas, 31, was sentenced to five years in prison on drug-related charges in Federal District Court in Manhattan on Tuesday (April 20)

Also cited in the Douglas letter was a litany of relatives who have either struggled with and/or died from substance abuse.

In January, Cameron pleaded guilty to charges that he distributed large quantities of methamphetamines and cocaine over a three-year period. He also pleaded guilty to possession of heroin while he was on house arrest and awaiting trial.

Along with the prison time, Cameron was ordered to pay $25,000 in fines and must serve 450 hours of community service.

Once he's out jail, Cameron is also required to spend an additional five years in a supervised release program.

Let's hope this works or this poor kid will be on that list of Douglas clan who have died from substance abuse.
