Uma Thurman's 'Motherhood': Worst opening weekend ever?
There's bad opening weekends ... and then there's B-A-D opening weekends.Uma Thurman's latest flick might top the list of the latter category. "Motherhood," which had already flopped in the U.S., somehow did even worse when it made it across the pond.
Have you ever heard of a $130 opening weekend? Yeah, well neither had we -- until now. That's the total The Guardian reports this movie grossed the weekend of March 5 in the U.K.
With horrific numbers like that, fingers start pointing (and most likely some heads will start rolling). Metrodome, responsible for marketing the film in the U.K., and producer Jana Edelbaum are currently engaged in a blame-throwing match.
Meanwhile somewhere Uma Thurman is silently praying those rumors about "Kill Bill Vol. 3" are true.

i have never heard of this movie
It should be noted this was just one single theatre, and we don't know if they did any publicity for this. If the people working the theatre don't remember it, someone must have screwed up big time. This is like an Entourage or Extras plot line come to life. I can't even see the simultaneous DVD release having that bad of an impact. Unless people indeed are only interested in going to see 3-D movies in theatres now.
How could this movie had flopped in the US when I haven't even heard of it before? If anyones heads should roll, it's the advertising team. When did it come out?
"How could this movie had flopped in the US when I haven't even heard of it before?"
Ummm, me thinks you answered your own question.
It was a straight to DVD here in the US and I'm pretty sure it was just a one theatre showing over there. Zap2it makes big deals over...nothing to make news
Whatever the case, her careers is done! Stick a fork in her, she's toast!
if they didn't promote it any better there than it was here, then nobody knew it had opened. People aren't going to lay down good money they don't even know is playing. I'd like to see it to form my own opinion, thank you. Uma Thurman is a gifted actress.
oh, the movie itself wasnt that bad. just lack of promotion. the company is little.
$130? That is like 15 people seeing the movie. Even in the UK (which has about 1/5 the population of the US), that is terrible. Even 1 year old movies airing in just 1 theater will make more than that. I came in here expecting bad numbers like "Swept Away" (the 2002 Madonna movie that cost $10 million but only made $598K, with about $350K of that being in the first weekend).
It could've aired at a budget theatre, like a 1 or 3 dollar (or the pound equivalent) where $130 would not be bad at all.
