'Twilight: New Moon' is fans' choice for the movie of 2009
Nearly 50,000 "Twilight" fans can't be wrong, can they?"The Twilight Saga: New Moon" will receive the ShoWest/Fandango Fan Choice Award as the best movie of 2009 Thursday (March 18) at the movie-industry convention's awards dinner. The hit movie beat out the likes of "Avatar," "Star Trek," "Up" and "The Hangover" for the honor, which fans voted on at online ticket-seller Fandango.
"New Moon" received a full two-thirds of the vote, which speaks to the passion that Twihards have about the franchise -- but frankly, we're a little underwhelmed at the vote totals.
Fandango says that "more than 71,000 moviegoers" voted in the Fan Choice Award poll and that "New Moon" received 66 percent of the vote. That translates to only about 47,000 people. Surely a movie that's made close to $300 million at the domestic box office and has legions of devoted fans can do better than that.
Other ShoWest honorees at Thursday's awards include Jerry Bruckheimer, Katherine Heigl, Vanessa Hudgens, Sam Worthington and Pixar.
