Tiger Woods faking it on ESPN and Golf Channel? CBS says no thanks, Tiger
To believe or not to believe? That is the Tiger Woods question. The golfer, who fell from grace after numerous alleged affairs made headline news, made another effort to repair his severely damaged public image on Sunday (March 21).
Woods gave five-minute interviews to ESPN and the Golf Channel, but his answers seemed somewhat rehearsed and controlled. Woods also refused to answer many questions, responding with answers such as, "that's a private matter." Reminiscent of his pre-scripted 13-minute apology on Feb. 19, it's hard to tell if Woods really means what he's saying.
Woods talked about getting "out of control" because he was "going against core values, quit meditating, I quit being a Buddhist. I felt I was entitled. I hurt so many people by my reckless attitude and behavior."
On being a punch line around the world, Woods told the Golf Channel, "Looking back on it now, I get it. I can understand why people would say those things. It was disgusting behavior, it was hard to believe it was me."
With Woods' imposed five-minute time limit (and short answers to boot), the interviews didn't really cover anything we don't already know -- begging the question, were they just public relations stints encouraged by Woods' damage control team? By the way, that team no longer includes former White House press secretary and damage control expert Ari Fleischer, who recently told the AP via email that he had been working for Woods, but had decided to withdraw. Hmmm.
CBS, the network airing Woods' return to golf at the Masters next month, said "no thanks" to an interview with Woods after being told they would be limited to the same five-minute time slot.
Did you watch Woods' interviews? Do you think he's genuine, or is it all just canned publicity in preparation for his return to golf?

As someone who is trying to forgive Tiger, I take exception to your article. Woods had not heard the questions until he answered them, so he could not have rehearsed them. As for the "private matter" issues, that is exactly what they are. Tiger owes no one any answers, yet now three times he has shown up to do that. He made a series of terrible choices, but I think it is time to move on.
@Mike -- you think he and his handlers didn't have a pretty good idea of what questions would be asked? And as someone who has made a good part of his living via commercial endorsements selling his image, yes, he does owe the public some answers.
Your trying to forgive Tiger?? WTF did he do to you? Did he cheat on you? Did he smack you around or something? Give me a break he is a GOLF PLAYER nothing more. get over it
Tiger did nothing to you personally. How would you like to have your personal life in the public would you want it for everybody to see. I doubt it. Tiger owes the public nothing. And how can you tell he is lying or telling the truth. This is what he acts like all the time even before the scandal. He never shows emotion unless he is on the course and misses a shot. Then you see him throw his club or curse other than that you get nothin from him. Another thing ok yea he helps sell items. Are they kiddie items he is selling? No his sponsors were big dollar items except for gatorade and gillete. Netjet, expensive watches all kinds of big dollar stuff that most *normal* people cant buy. So unless he stole your gf he doesnt owe you a dang thing.
Only five minutes to talk about 4 months of digressions? Who is this guy kidding? Still the same phoney we've now come to know him as. Hope he gets his butt kicked at the Masters.
He can't win no matter what he does. If he doesn't give an interview, he gets slammed for that. If he DOES, he gets slammed that he didn't tell us enough.
He doesn't OWE us anything - I don't see why people can't get that. His personal life is not why I watch him play golf. Yeah, he disappointed me, but not to the point where I figure he should have to pay for it for the rest of his life.
As long as he plays good enough golf to keep me interested in that, I'm not interested in anything about his private life and nobody else should be either.
Why IS it that we build up our heroes and then LOVE to shoot them down.
The look on his face told me all I wanted to know. For someone who counts on being control of everything, I don't think he felt in control of ANYTHING.
Shame on any news organization who moans and complains about how he isn't giving interviews or telling us enough when he does. It's not our business.
Tiger Woods seems to be in the fight of his life. Tiger is desperately trying to save his marriage and his family. Tiger repeatedly has said publicly that he loves Elin and the children and that they are the most important thing of his life. You have to feel sorry for the guy. He looks beaten and sad in both interviews. Tiger gave his soul to the devil in exchange for pleasures of the flesh. He may pay for this the rest of his life, more so if he looses Elin Nordegren and his children! I pray that whatever Elin decides to do work the best for her and her two precious children. My heart goes to them!
