Tiger Woods' ESPN interview video: He and wife Elin Nordegren 'work at it'

Tiger Woods gave his first interview since the car accident that kicked off one of the biggest sports scandals in history to ESPN's Tom Rinaldi Sunday, March 21. Woods touched on his treatment, the love he has for his wife and getting back into golf at the 2010 Masters tournament in Augusta, GA on April 8.

Highlights of the interview include:

  • "I've done some pretty bad things in my life and it all came to a head.  But after treatment .... I'm getting back to my old roots."
  • "I owed a lot of people an apology ... my friends, my colleagues, my wife, the public, kids who looked up to me."
  • "I made my mistakes ... I've hurt so many people ... I've made amends to so many people."
  • "I saw a person that I never thought I would ever become ... I got away from my core values, my Buddhism. I got away from what my mom and dad had taught me ... I felt entitled and that was not how I raised."
  • "I'm excited to get back and play ... I missed competing."
  • "It would be nice to hear a couple claps here and there."
  • "People I had to talk and face like my wife and my mom. I've hurt them the most. Those are the two people in my life that I'm the closest to and to say the things that I have done truthfully to them ... was very painful."

Rinaldi does ask Woods why even get married in the first place and Woods says, "Because I loved her. I loved Elin with everything I had. That's something that makes me feel even worse, that I did something to someone I love so much ... We work at it."

Overall, Woods seemed remorseful and regretful but one has to wonder how much of it is show because his image needs so much rehabbing in the public eye.

Tiger you are so full of yourself it is ridiculous..why should anyone believe you!! You think you can buy love and forgiveness..Tiger you need all kinds of help..you have been living a lie for so long I don't think that will change!!
It is funny how remorseful you can be when you have an ulterior motive!!!

Hopefully, they will work it out.
Hopefully, Tiger W. won't make the same mistakes again.

First of all, I would like to congratulate Elin on her conduct – she is extremely courageous and deserves a medal for what has been a harrowing time for her. But once a husband admits to having outside sexual affairs with other women – he is branded for life. He may be having counselling sessions but it is what happens after is the big thing. He has to be prepared to work at his marriage – after all, Elin has been with him for a number of years and has two children. He also made a promise that he would try and rebuild his marriage (depending on how long that will take). But instead he has announced that he is returning to play golf which I think is too soon. Golf is not the bee all and end of – what matters is his marriage. I think that Elin needs to decide how long can she put up with all these mistresses who are only out to get what they think they are owed e.g. puttting all these text messages on the internet for all and summary to read. Also that they appear to care only for themselves and not realising what damage they are causing Elin. After reading the latest articles – I see that Elin has disappeared and gone on a break – good on her and I have just one more thing to add – is to officially separate for a time and see how things go and then decide whether or not it will lead to divorce. Once the trust has gone – there is nothing to save in a marriage. There is also a saying that goes “A leopard cannot change its spots”. So all in all my heart goes out to Elin and her two children.

Tiger Woods seems to be in the fight of his life. Tiger is desperately trying to save his marriage and his family. Tiger repeatedly has said publicly that he loves Elin and the children and that they are the most important thing of his life. You have to feel sorry for the guy. Tiger gave his soul to the devil in exchange for pleasures of the flesh. He may pay for this the rest of his life, more so if he looses Elin Nordegren and his children! I pray that whatever Elin decides to do work the best for her and her two precious children. My heart goes to them!

Wow, he's completely fake. What a trip.

i think he is a faker.

A Tiger can't change his stripes. He will always be a narcissist

Geeze - give him a chance!!

I just saw the interview and he looked beaten down. There is NO reason he needs to answer all the most personal questions to anyone other than his family.

It isn't our business. What he did didn't affect my life other than not being able to watch him play golf.

If you hate him so much, then don't watch the interview - why would you?

I think he has so much to overcome and he's trying. Remember, he has to earn a living and go back to work. Which means he'll have people poking at him constantly about his private life, which was NEVER any of our business.

He looked sad and worn out. I can't even imagine how hard it must be for him to try to face the public again. I for one will be cheering him on.
