The real
Kim Fowley , the man who created the Runaways, the first all girl rock band, wasn't invited to the set of "The Runaways," starring
Kristen Stewart and
Dakota Fanning as band members
Joan Jett and
Cheri Curry .
He wasn't even invited to the film's Sundance Film Festival premiere and the Joan Jett and the Blackhearts concert in Park City, Utah. And yet his character in the film is the most riveting, mesmerizing and fascinating persona in the whole rock and roll scenario
But that didn't stop the indefatiguable Fowley from crashing the Mar. 10 press junket at
the Luxe Hotel on Sunset Blvd, and hanging out in the hospitality suite
wearing a T-shirt that read "I'm not Kim Fowley." Not that he
needed the shirt. The physical resemblance between Fowley and
the actor who portrays him in the film, Michael Shannon , even without the
makeup and costumes, was postively remarkable.
Shannon told us that he had only a week to prepare for the role and
he absorbed Fowley's mannerisms by watching his appearance on Tom
Snyde r's late night talk show. Over and over and over.
Ever the
promoter, Fowley introduced himself to us and asked if we wanted to
interview him. The Dish Rag was lucky enough to have brought along our
trusty flip cam to capture our exclusive chat with the legendary record
producer and promoter. And he's dead serious about contacting him if you want to become a star. Here's his Facebook Fan page . And here's the last bit of our Fowley chat.
