Oscars 2010: Mo'Nique thanks Hattie McDaniel, first African-American Oscar winner

Mo'Nique gave another of her heartfelt acceptance speeches at the 2010 Academy Awards. She first thanked the academy for showing that it can be about the performance and not the politics and then she said, "I want to thank Miss Hattie McDaniel for enduring all that she had to so that I would not have to."

McDaniel was the first African-American nominated for an Oscar and the first African-American winner, back in 1939 for "Gone With the Wind."

Mo'Nique went on to thank Tyler Perry, Oprah Winfrey, an attorney, her BET family, her "Precious" family and her husband Sidney Hicks.

Her Academy Award win for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for "Precious" caps off an awards sweep in that category for Mo'Nique.
 


She previously said she was not going to write an Oscar speech because the Universe would think she's got a lotta nerve but everyone regarded her as a shoo-in. Mo'Nique also looked just stunning in a royal blue Tadashi Shoji.
