'Mission: Impossible' star Peter Graves dies

peter-graves.jpgPeter Graves, the star of the "Mission: Impossible" TV series, died on Sunday (March 14). He was 83.

Graves was found dead at his home Sunday at his home in Pacific Palisades, the L.A. Times reports. The paper says he appears to have died of natural causes.

Graves is probably best known for playing secret agent Jim Phelps in "Mission: Impossible," which ran on CBS from 1966-73 (Graves joined the show in 1967). His other TV credits include the 1950s show "Fury," "The Winds of War" and more recently, a recurring part on "7th Heaven" and guest spots on "House" and "Cold Case."

In the movies, he brilliantly spoofed his straight-arrow image in "Airplane!," delivering outrageous lines like "Have you ever been in a Turkish prison?" in perfect deadpan.

He's survived by his wife, Joan Endress, and three daughters.

How is James Arness taking the news of his brother passing?
RIP Peter Graves:(

James Arness is hitting or already passed 90 IIRC, so to see his younger brother go before him is kinda sad but, honestly, they've had a good run.

Aw, I really liked him. Bless his soul.

god bless you mr. graves. and my condolences to his love ones

, I really liked him.

a great man

This is a nice post,thanks a lot.

Peter Graves and his brother, James Arness gave us a lot of entertainment for many years. Mr. Graves, you will be missed.

I liked him for refusing to turn his signature Mr. Phelps character into a villain, in the first MI movie. He was right to refuse - it would have been like learning Matt Dillon secretly owned Miss Kitty's, er, dancing hall and broke legs to collect gambling debts in his spare time. Peter Graves had integrity in what was most important to his professional life, and it helped make his Mr. Phelps seem real despite the clockwork schemes the character engineered.
