Lady Gaga's 'Telephone' debuts, she explains the 'hidden message' ... kind of
Lady Gaga's much buzzed-about "Telephone" video debuted Thursday (Mar. 11) night. It was jam-packed with everything Gaga-esque from flashy outfits and multiple costume changes to risque content, including Gaga getting stripped down to nothing in prison followed by a brief girl-on-girl make out session. But the Lady herself says there's much more to it.
"There's certainly always a hidden message in my music videos," Gaga tells E! News. "But I would say most predominately, I'm always trying to convolute everyone's idea of what a pop music video should be."
Ok, so we get that she made it a non-standard nine-minutes long, but what exactly is she talking about? Luckily, she clarified -- kind of.
"There was this really amazing quality in 'Paparazzi,' where it kind of had this pure pop music quality but at the same time it was a commentary on fame culture. In its own way, even at certain points working with Jonas [Akerlund, the director of both videos] really achieved this high art quality in the way that it was shot. I wanted to do the same thing with this video--take a decidedly pop song, which on the surface has a quite shallow meaning, and turn it into something deeper."
Whatever you say, Gaga.
Beyoncé held her own as co-star in the video, and Gaga had an explanation for why the two (who also collaborated for Beyoncé's single "Video Phone") have such good work chemistry. The reigning pop princess told MTV, "We had an amazing time working together on her video, and it just kind of works out because we both like women."
Not exactly sure what she means by that comment, but we're intrigued.
And if you're a Quentin Tarantino fan, you might have noticed the director's influence on the video, including the Pussy Wagon from "Kill Bill." According to Gaga, Tarantino loaned it to her over lunch in Los Angeles one day.
"I was telling him about my concept for the video and he loved it so much he said, 'You gotta use the Pussy Wagon.'"
Do you think "Telephone" lives up to all the hype?

i liked it, the best part were the two guards at the beggining who strip her. One says to the other.."I told you she didn't have a d!ck"!
I loved that.

Grotesque and repulsive.
"Something deeper" LMAO.
Gaddafi's booty shaker for terrorists blood money needs to sit down already.
at the first few minutes of the vid you'll hear someone say "i told you she doesnt have a d****", and someone else responds "too bad!". LOL!
my apologies dianne j, i didnt see that u commented on that already :)i loved that part too
I don't care what anyone says, this video was on point. And I got her message loud and clear. Pop videos don't have any substance in them anymore and are not as epic as they were back in the 80s/early 90s. In short, today's videos are boring. Thank you Gaga (and whoever directed Kanye West's 'Paranoid' video) for bringing high art back to the music video.
I agree with above comment, at least it was interesting (but a bit over-baked). The song grew on me as the video went on. Gaga's bod not bad (she sure likes to show it) but now i know why she usually wore a mask earlier in her career. BOO!
