'Dancing With the Stars' Erin Andrews stalker sentenced
ESPN sportscaster and upcoming "Dancing With the Stars" contestant Erin Andrews was the victim of a serious violation of privacy last year when a video surfaced on the internet of Andrews nude in her hotel room, exercising and curling her hair. The video had been recorded without her knowledge or consent by Michael Barrett, a 48-year-old insurance exec from Illinois.
Later, seven other videos with similar content were discovered. Barrett admitted to using peephole cameras in the hotel room doors and stalking Andrews over several months.
Today, Barrett was sentenced to 30 months in prison and to pay Andrews $7,366 in restitution fees.
Andrews has already paid Barrett a small fee for the copyright to the videos, so that she has the legal power to go after anyone who releases them.
On the stand, Andrews told Barrett, "This will never be over for me, and in return I never want it to be over for you. You are a sexual predator. I don't feel safe with you on the loose."
According to the New York Daily News, Barrett avoided Andrews' gaze.
Outside the courthouse, Andrews told reporters she was at an "angry stage" because "thirty months is not enough."
Andrews is currently training for "Dancing With the Stars," which will premiere on Monday, Mar. 22 on ABC. Barrett has been ordered to surrender himself to the prison on May 3.
