'We Are the World' gets reboot from Lionel Richie, Quincy Jones and Paul Haggis
25 years after the original star-studded recording of "We Are the World" for USA for Africa (which raised $63 million), music legends are once again taking to the studio to see if the anthem can have the same benefit for the people of Haiti."We Are the World" was originally penned by the late Michael Jackson, Lionel Richie and Quincy Jones. Ritchie and Jones are producing this second effort.
Nicole Richie tweeted her enjoyment, "I was 4 years old in a studio watching my dad record We Are The World, & today I get to do it again. Excited to help make a change" and "WOW. Brian Wilson stood next to me & I got to hear him sing right into my left ear. Can you say AWESOME!" and "I hope Jennifer Hudson wasn't upset that I was out singing her tonight."
We assume that last one was a joke. Right?
Stars on the recording include Usher, Lil Wayne, Pink, Natalie Cole, the Jonas Brothers, Barbra Streisand, Celine Dion, Harry Connick Jr., Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Tony Bennett, Carlos Santana and Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, among others.
Meanwhile, Academy Award-winning filmmaker Paul Haggis ("Crash") came to the recording session Monday, Feb. 1 to film the artists at work for the upcoming video, which will debut during the opening ceremony of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Watch some recording footage below.
Will you buy the "We Are the World" redux? Also, do we spy Vince Vaughn and Jeff Bridges in the above photo? Huh.

Who will manage the money and who's pockets will be lined.
Remember Yele and Wyclef's foundation has questionable accounting.
Until I know for sure, not buying these idiots celebration of themselves.
I applaud the effort but to retread that song? Too bad the earthquake didn't happen a little earlier. We could have been treated to a remake of "Do They Know It's Christmas."
“Listen up people†the song “We are the World 2010†was put together for the sole purpose of helping Haiti survivors. It’s not a promo video for anyone in it. And while I think they could have done a better job musically you gotta see the bigger picture here…it’s about raising money to save destroyed lives…
