So how old is Roger Daltrey? Only 66!

_the-who.jpg
Roger Daltrey and The Who were pretty astonishing during their halftime performance at the Super Bowl on Sunday. By the way, their drummer--  Zak Starkey -- is Ringo Starr's son. How cool is that?

Judging by the way Pete Townsend and Roger look, sound and play, we bet they no longer agree with their classic teen anthem lyric, "Hope I die before I get old."  Pete wrote that lyric for "My Generation" in 1965 when he was only 20 years old.

Daltrey is actually only 66 years old. Pete Townsend is 64. Amazing.

If you missed it (or just want to see it again), check out the video of their Super Bowl gig. Have they gotten better with age? Sure looks like it to us.

Carrie is trash? Really? You obviously don't know much about her. (Reply to comment in orange box at right)

What were you watching? I thought 'The Who' stunk so bad that I could smell it in my living room. I saw The Who in 1972 when I was a teen. Admittedly I really never did like them that much but at least they could sing. Daltrey looked like he was straining to have a stroke to get a note out and all Pete could do was a fake 'wheel' with his guitar without even hitting it. Better with age?? LOL How old are you and did you ever hear The Who when the could still be fairly good? EPIC FAIL!!!!

The Who? Awesome!! Anyone who watched and heard the whole dang stadium singing along knows it was a Super Bowl worthy performance. Great choice! AGAIN!

If you were over 50 you loved it. Everyone else thought it was stupid. They looked old and dear god, I did not need to see Pete Townsend's stomach nearly that much. Nothing like seeing a 65 year old bare belly to make all the food I had eaten want to come up.

I'm 50 and love The Who, but I thought they were pretty awful...Daltrey's voice was bad (got a little better later in the performance) and Pete was SO out of tune when he did backup vocals (a teeny bit better when he was lead) and could hear him gasping for breath every 3 or 4 words. makes me WISH I'd seen them even 10 years or so ago....certainly don't sound as good as McCartney or Jagger still do (and I'm NOT a Stones fan...)

god, when did everyone become an American Idol judge? live performance isn't all about technical perfection. the energy and spirit of the performance is just as, or even moreso, important. (@Andy)I am well under (way under) 50, and i loved the performance! these guys still ROCK.

@cluegirl

Do you get paid at work just for showing up and trying? Do you expect your employer to be nice to you because you are getting older? Do you expect to be paid and still working at 60 just because you are still trying? .............Didn't think so!

p.s. I am over 50 and pure and simple.....The Who needs to hang it up. A man's got to know his limitations.

66 and I'd still do 'im in a heartbeat! ;-) Overall it wasn't the best Who performance I've ever seen, something was definitely off between Rog and Pete. But I'd put the raw rock 'n' roll *talent* on that stage up against today's wannabes any day of the year.
