Olympian Evgeni Plushenko awards himself 'Platinum' medal?

evgeni-plushkeno-platinum-b.jpgThere's an interesting opening screen at men's figure skater Evgeni Pluskenko's official website.

evgeni-plushenko--small.jpgApparently, Evgeni Plushenko has awarded himself a Platinum medal.

If you'll recall, Evgeni took the silver medal in men's figure skating on Thursday, Feb. 18. He finished behind Evan Lysacek of the United States and there was a bit of a controversy about who should've won the gold medal.

Plushenko does a quadruple jump. Lysacek does not. However, Lysacek skated a flawless program full of triple jumps, while Plushenko had bobbles here and there throughout his program. Plushenko also front-loads his program, which means he does his most difficult elements at the beginning. Lysacek does some of his more difficult jumps at the end of his program. Under the new scoring system, a skater is awarded more points for doing more difficult elements near the end.

Regardless of who "should have" won, it's still pretty hilarious that either Pluskenko or someone in charge of his website decided to forego the Olympic judges and award Plushenko a Platinum medal.

It's joke:)
But he is real gold champion and his programms were stronger.
The situation remindes like in Salt Lake City with Irina Slutskaya and Sarah Hughes.
Americans go through anybody and dont respect anybody when they want to make their olimpic champion.
Guys, it is really sad.
Cos it shows us that its not Olimpic Games:(

What a shame! Americans bought olympic gold! as they usually do for everything. This nation is mostly disliked all over the wold.

Putin sent him the platinum medal, you should have fact checked before you wrote your article

What a sad slide to see a once great athlete try and scrape and claw their way to the podium. He's nothing more than a pathetic excuse for a human being now that he cannot accept defeat with grace and dignity. How very sad indeed. Scoot on back to potato land and lick your wounds. Maybe in about 10 years no one will remember what an *** you made of yourself in defeat.

Plushenko has every right to stand up for himself. His country's OFFICIALS should be standing up for him. We in American very strongly support our athletes when we think an injustice might have been committed. We immediately start asking questions so we can find out. I wish Russia would do the same for their athlete! I believe Plushenko should have received the gold, but even more so, he deserves the dignity of an official investigation. SOMEONE needs to be fighting for him. This is very frustrating to me as an American. It is an incomprehensible.

Since Americans have so little respect and are hated so much, why post on our sites . . . especially when you have such a hard time mastering our language? Post on sites from your own countries, that are perfect and well-loved.

Whatever. Plushenko still didn't win the Olympic gold medal. LOL!

How do you say "Sore Loser" in Russian?

No, it's not really fun...it's sad and pathetic. It is also not unprecedented: The ever clunky Irina Slutskaya, who added "artistry" to her programs by flailing her arms in much the same way as Plushenko does, but without any footwork improvement, believed "SHE" earned gold at Salt Lake City. The government of Russia awarded her a "gold medal" upon her return to Russia following that Olympics.

Plushenko's program was decidedly NOT stronger than anyone's at the Olympics. His footwork was poor, his spins were average and his transitions (the connective tissue between jumps, footwork and spins) was non-existent. He brought nothing new to the table...all his poses/posters were outtakes from performances he did before he won his Torino gold medal. The sport has advanced, but he has not. It's encouraging to see that intimidation and egocentric behavior, which has become a Russian trademark (sadly, in lieu of actual talent), did not result in a reward for the behavior.

The Gold went to the best skater "of" the competition. I think "Plushi" is lucky he was even on the podium.

Alex, were all the ice skating judges at the Olympics
American? If the skaters were only being judged on doing a quad, the program would be 10 seconds long. The Sore Loser had several bobbles in his program and was far from perfect. He lost fair and square.

Are you kidding me? "Plushi is lucky he was even on the podium"? I understand Americans support their own athletes, that's perfectly normal, but Plushenko's program was without a doubt technically harder than Lysacek's.
If Lysacek attempted a quad at the Olympics, he probably would've landed on his butt.
