Mackenzie Phillips tells Joy Behar: Sex with dad was not 'consensual'
Mackenzie Phillips has changed her mind. That is to say, she's chosen new words to describe her decade-long sexual relationship with her father, Mamas and the Papas singer John Phillips.
She told Joy Behar on her nightly HLN talk show Tuesday (Feb. 2) that she's learned from other incest survivors that her use of the word "consensual" is incorrect. Due to inherent parental power, sex between a parent and a child is never "consensual" on the child's part.
Fair enough.
But Mackenzie is still glad she's spoken out about her experiences due to the number of women who have contacted her to thank her for bringing all this to light in her book, "High on Arrival."

I thought we already knew that it was not consensual. I wouldn't say that she "ate her words." She was simply trying to clarify in case anyone suspected that she wanted to have sex with her father. I don't know why anyone would have thought that when the revelation came out last summer but who knows.
She had previously implied it was consensual. I agree with her that a parent has control over a child but a 20 year old? I'm sorry but I don't buy it. The relationship didn't begin until she was an adult.
How many has been and never were starlets do we have to put up with making all kinds of accusations of how they were molested, raped, beaten by everything from the family dog to their bestest friend. This woman has no credibility with me. She spent most of her life high on just about every narcotic known to man, so her version of what ever truth she may be trying to remember thru all that drug induced haze is suspect to say the least.
it wont last for 10 yrs if she didnt enjoy it... she's already 20yo when it started! Shes just trying to get people's attention to sell her book.
I am certain ms. phillips wrote another autobiography years ago, but I have yet to see it mentioned in the press.
As I remember, it was all about getting sober-no mention of really anything negative about dad. I think the timing (unemployed and back it rehab) is certainly interesting in writing a new book with no mention of the old book of about 15 years ago. In fact she described some of the same events completely differently in the nnew book, yet no mention is made that the story is recycled.
yeah i agree with CountCrash, its all about her getting attention to get her book.
