John Mayer: Playboy comments about black women racist, sexist or a joke gone wrong?

John Mayer is getting a lot of heat on the Internet for his reportedly racist comments in his Playboy interview.
Playboy asks him about working with Common and Kanye West. And Mayer actually compares his own life struggle to that of a black man.
"What is being black? It's making the most of your life, not taking a single moment for granted. Taking something that's seen as a struggle and making it work for you, or you'll die inside. Not to say that my struggle is like the collective struggle of black America. But maybe my struggle is similar to one black dude's."
And when asked if black women throw themselves at him, he responded:
"I don't think I open myself to it. My d**k is sort of like a white supremacist. I've got a Benetton heart and a f***in' David Duke c**k. I'm going to start dating separately from my d**k."
But, wait, there's more.
"I always thought Holly Robinson Peete was gorgeous. Every white dude loved Hilary from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. And Kerry Washington. She's super hot and she's also white-girl crazy. Kerry Washington would break your heart like a white girl. Just all of a sudden she'd be like, 'Yeah, I sucked his d**k. Whatever.'"
Laurie L. Mulvey, co-director of the Race Relations Project at Penn State University tells Usmagazine.com "Both white people and people of color will be offended by Mayer commenting so flippantly about an issue that has caused so much pain in this culture, especially to black women."
Social media slut that he is, John took to Twitter on Wednesday (Feb. 10) to try and explain -- and apologize for -- some of his statements:
Re: using the 'N word' in an interview: I am sorry that I used the word. And it's such a shame that I did because the point I was trying
to make was in the exact opposite spirit of the word itself. It was arrogant of me to think I could intellectualize using it,
because I realize that there's no intellectualizing a word that is so emotionally charged.
And while I'm using today for looking at myself under harsh light, I think it's time to stop trying to be so raw in interviews...
It started as an attempt to not let the waves of criticism get to me, but it's gotten out of hand and I've created somewhat of a monster.
I wanted to be a blues guitar player. And a singer. And a songwriter. Not a shock jock. I don't have the stomach for it.
Again, because I don't want anyone to think I'm equivocating: I should have never said the word and I will never say it again.
OK, so maybe he's not racist. But possible sexist is still very much on the table.

He's a raving lunatic. Jennifer Aniston consider yourself lucky that you're rid of this jerk!!!!!
The more he talks, the deeper the hole gets that he's digging himself into. He needs to learn to keep his mouth shut. Such a jerk!
John couldn't please a black woman if he tried to. So his anatomy can remain prejudice. He needs to shut up and grow up.
Guess what John, Black women don’t want you. PROBLEM SOLVED!

Get over yourself ladies. He doesn't want you either. So keep your comments at home in the kitchen where they should be.
Mayer didn't care about his comments until it hit his bottom line. ALL WOMEN NEED TO BOYCOTT SEXIST GARBAGE. We have money and that equals power. It's time to stand up to the hatred in ALL MUSIC.
BOYCOT JOHN MAYER!
This extremely insensetive neanderthal is both sexist and racist--and we shouldn't allow this bimboy to get away easy. He crossed the line of no return. What a jerk!
Hey, Stewy! Get lost, and start weaning yourself off Nestle's formula little tweet!
Telling the men and women who object to Mayer's Sexist and Racist comments...to "go back to the kitchen"
Stewy -- your parents sure made themselves some dumb, tasteless Stew in *their* kitchen, boy!
john mayer is about as cute as porky pig
John Mayer just gave people another reason to dislike him. While tasteless and low class, his joke that is, I don't think we need to gather a mob equipted with pitchforks, and fires, and hang him at the town's city hall. As for racist, no, he honestly told a bad "joke" as he stated. He apologized, and now we shall move on. Well I did. Please this race topic is old already.
I'm black, even though my skin's a little light, it means my ancestors were raped by somebody white- Styles P
