"Avatar" director James Cameron's ex-wife Linda Hamilton isn't as close to him as one of his other exes, "Hurt Locker" director Kathryn Bigelow, is.

Hamilton started dating Cameron in the early 1990s when she starred in '"Terminator 2." They had a daughter in 1993. Cameron later took up with actress Suzy Amis, who had a small part in "Titanic."

He married Hamilton after the on-set "Titanic" affair with Amis, but then he left Hamilton for Amis a few months later.

"'Titanic' was the most painful thing in the world," Linda tells the Daily Mail. "But this wasn't because Jim was cheating on me. It was a painful time because we'd had a relationship where I'd push him away, then he'd push me away. Frankly, most of our relationship was us taking a big break."

Cameron and Amis are still married. But Hamilton thinks it won't last.

"The woman he can't get is always his dream girl," she says. "Work and women go hand in hand for Jimbo, and I should know."

"He used to say to me: 'Anybody can be a father or a husband. There are only five people in the world who can do what I do, and I'm going for that.'"

We're still amazed by his ability to have love affairs while making gigantic blockbuster films.
