Edie Falco likes her reality TV to keep it real

edie-falco-winter-press-tour-2010-gi.jpgEdie Falco is delighted that the U.S. TV landscape is currently thriving with roles for mature women such as Sally Field, Glenn Close, Toni Collette, Holly Hunter, Kyra Sedgwick and herself. She just doesn't spend much time watching those shows.

"The truth is I watch almost no narrative television at all," says the Emmy-winning actress, whose Showtime comedy series "Nurse Jackie" returns in March.

"That being the case, this is a ridiculous business for me to be in, but I watch documentary shows.

"That's the stuff that appeals to me, and I don't know why the hell that is. When I have a little time to myself, I turn on 'The First 48,' that detective show, which I absolutely love. I also love 'Forensic Files' and 'American Confidential, all those things on A&E that I just live for. 'Cops,' also.

"It's an opportunity to watch genuine, real people behaving in high-stakes circumstances. I never get to see that in my real life. Even just wandering the streets anymore, it's hard to watch people behaving normally, because I am on TV now and people's behavior changes around me. It's the most bizarre phenomenon. I miss watching people just being in their element and just being 'normal people.'"
