Admiral Ackbar as Ole Miss' new mascot? It's (not) a trap!

admiral-ackbar-ole-miss-bigger.jpgAdmiral Ackbar may not live in a galaxy far, far away for long.

The University of Mississipi, aka Ole Miss, is seeking a new mascot since the previous one, Colonel Reb, has been retired, and Admiral Ackbar is a popular contender to fill the role, says "Access Hollywood."

Assuming George Lucas would actually allow the Star Wars galaxy character, of the Mon Calamari people, to be used as a mascot, the final decision is up to the students' vote vote on the mascot committee.

It's a perfect marriage of rebels: Ole Miss' Rebels and the good admiral as the leader of the Rebel Alliance.

Besides his dashing, aquatic good looks, Ackbar is known for declaring "It's a trap!" in "Return of the Jedi." It has since become an Internet meme and was used in this classic "Robot Chicken" skit:

Over on the geek-centric "Big Bang Theory," Sheldon attempts to channel Admiral Ackbar.

Do you support Admiral Ackbar as leader of the Rebel Alliance Nation?

Yea uhhhhhh no. Im sure Ole Miss will come up with something better than that.

dear god please do it. i will officially watch every game lol

Headline should read, "Admiral Ackbar as Ole Miss's new mascot? It's (not) a trap!"

Not only is the name of the college wrong, but the punctuation as well.

No, punctuation's correct. That's how you punctuate a possessive whose base noun ends in an "s".

Yeah, but getting the name wrong...that's bad.

George Lucas is just like sitting there waiting for the school to make a mistake and then sue them for copyright violations. So...maybe it's a trap.

Awesome! If Ole Miss actually does this, I swear to God that I will never be without a team cap.

No, John Locke, the punctuation is NOT correct. Miss's is correct. The only time the s' scenario is correct is when the base possessive noun ends in S and is a plural. i.e. Girls' Ole Miss is a singular. Thanks for playing.

Oops. Sorry. DC was the one who got it wrong, not John Locke.

This is par for Ole Miss... Crappy! They will be the laughing stock of college athletics, oh they already are!!

AP style, which I'm assuming this news blog uses, does not require an additional -s after the apostrophe following an -s.
