2010 Winter Olympics: Skater Johnny Weir under attack by French broadcasters
Johnny Weir may have finished sixth in the men's figure skating finals, but the 25-year-old skater is still a hot topic at the 2010 Olympic Games. The Associated Press reports that two broadcasters are under fire for derogatory comments made about the former world champion.
One commentator from French-language broadcaster RDS said Weir hurts figure skating's image, while another said the skater should be made to take a gender test. The Quebec Gay and Lesbian Council has demanded a public apology from RDS, calling the remarks "outrageous" and "homophobic."
Weir's agent, Tara Modlin, says Weir knows about the comments, but he's made no public response as of yet.
The Dish Rag thinks the much buzzed-about skater will most likely ignore the nasty comments and forge ahead with his plans to start his own fashion line (much to the French commentators' dismay, we're guessing) after the Olympics wrap up.
Weir recently shared his fashion ambitions in an interview on HBO's "Real Sports With Bryant Gumbel," where Weir discussed his plans to launch his own multi-category collection and open retail stores.
The fashion-forward skater has evidently long been interested in the design world. His costume designer of 12 years, Stephanie Handler, told Women's Wear Daily that his ambitions are no big shocker to her.
"He's been wanting to design since he began to skate," says Handler. "He loves fashion and clothes and all that stuff."
So when Johnny Weir's designs make it to the Paris runways, we suggest the French commentators don't hold their breath for an invite....

That is such crap. The French commentators should to their job and focus on the skating, not someone's sexuality. Johnny is a great skater and I'd go shopping with him anytime.
Sacre Bleu!
Just so you're aware RDS is actually French-Canadian and not from France so unless he is going to Montreal, I'm sure they won't want to see him anywhere!!
Johnny, don't let the turkeys get you down! but anyway, i know you won't. :)
Take a shower, RDS commentators, and focus on the poor results your country's athletes are posting for the OWN THE PODIUM movement at the Olympic Games.
They are not FRENCH. If they were French, they'd be in FRANCE. RDS is in Quebec. They are FRENCH-SPEAKING. Huge difference.
Those remarks have no place on the air or in society. That is not the example one should set for our young ones, who may or may not, have been listening. Focus on the sport and not on your own biasis!
Please the guy is good but is a mockery of Olympic sport. His cocky attitude should have been dropped at the door before hitting the ice. Being an Olympic athelite is an honor and he disgraced it.
