Wyclef Jean, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt encourage Haiti earthquake relief

wyclef-jean.jpgWyclef Jean, a recording artist and former member of now-defunct group The Fugees, is doing all he can for the citizens of the earthquake-ravaged Haiti. He arrived in the country Wednesday to aid in the relief effort.

Jean has also been tweeting about his home country since the earthquake yesterday, including, "WARRIORS HAITI NEEDS U NOW! PLEASE LEND YOUR PRAYERS AND SUPPORT TO THE EARTHQUAKE RELIEF EFFORT TEXT "YELE" TO 501 501 OR VISIT YELE.ORG."

Which managed to send so many people to Yele.org to help that it crashed their site.
But it's heart-warming to see how many people responded to his Twitter and mobilized.

A spokeswoman for Yele told the Associated Press that the organization "is working to fix the problem and increase the site's bandwidth."

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are encouraging people to help out friend Wyclef. They released a statement Wednesday: "We are devastated by the news from Haiti. We will work closely with our good friend Wyclef Jean to support the humanitarian efforts on the island and help those who have been injured and left without homes and shelter."

Meanwhile, you can still donate $5 by texting YELE to 501501.

Wyclef has been the only true Ambassador for Haiti in America. I trust him wholeheartedly to to do his best for the Haitian people. He can do what most people cannot do because Haiti is for Wyclef and Wyclef for Haiti. The people of Haiti trust Wyclef, and I do too.
