Tiger Woods in 'Vanity Fair': Never-before-seen photos

"Vanity Fair" has a series of Annie Leibovitz photographs of Tiger Woods pre-scandal and is running them in the Feb. 2010 issue alongside an article about Woods' fall from grace. That might actually be an understatement, as sponsor after sponsor has distanced themselves from Tiger Woods.
Bissinger also refers to other athlete sex scandals (David Beckham, Kobe Bryant) that hardly surprised the public, but that the Woods scandal was particularly shocking because Tiger has always been "a charming nonperson."
The piece is an interesting read for sure, but one thing that really strikes us is the Travis Bickle-esque cover. That certainly isn't the Tiger Woods of the past and, as the photos were taken pre-scandal, maybe a little prescient?

And the Tiger scandal actually gave me more respect for him.
It proved he is not a robot.
He was too perfect.
Now we know he is real person, with real emotions and living and breathing his own real life !!!
Tiger is one of the whitest guys around, playing essentially a white man's sport and making a lot of money from it to provide a more than luxurious life for himself and his family. So why did Vanity Fair feel the need to thug him up on the cover?
