'Mad Men' Jon Hamm hams it up on SNL: Honey glazed or turkey?

"Mad Men" star Jon Hamm shaved off his beard! Thank God. Now we can take him off our Hollywood Beard Brigade list.

But that's the best thing about Jon's appearance on "Saturday Night Live."

Other than his send-up of his Don Draper character in this John Ham skit, most of his moments on the show were -- how to put this nicely -- disappointing. That whole Sergio sax player curse (covered in afterbirth) was bizarrely lame. And even his picture-perfect portrayal of sexy Republican Scott Brown fell flat.

If you missed it, Brown's good looks caused Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Robert Byrd, Barbara Boxer, and Barney Frank to have fantasies about him. Could we not have had Hamm do a faux Brown Cosmo spread instead of turn into miniature fantasy Brown dancing on the Democrats' shoulders?

To be honest, we almost fell asleep during the show, which is something we never do during "Mad Men," even with its often slow pace.

It's not Jon's fault. The writers just didn't give him decent material. And we give Jon credit for giving it his best.

But that's just our take. What did you think?

I thought it was hilarious last night. Like it or not, SNL is starting to take a turn toward more bizarre and non sequential humor. Personally, I enjoy it. If you don't like it, change the channel

Hard to believe we watched the same show, because I thought Jon was a great hosts. And, based on all the other reviews, I am not the only one.

Really?! I loved last night's show -- the opening two skits (SOTU and "Don't make me sing") were duds, but the rest were fantastic. Especially Scott Brown and Hamm & Buble.

I've been hard on SNL in the last season, but Jon Hamm's ep was great. Less fratboy idiocy, more insane Pythonesque, KITH-style absurdity. Miles better than stupid gameshow ripoffs and awful skits like "Gilly".

Time to get your vision (and possibly funnybone) checked.

WHAT SHOW WERE YOU WATCHING. HE WAS GREAT!

Jon Hamm was excellent last night- Hamm & Buble was the best sketch of the year, and the Scott Brown sketch, monologue, and Sergio digital short were all really good.

Jon Hamm was great on the show last night, he really put it all out there. The Scott Brown sketch was the high side of high-larious!mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm...def honey glazed!

I too thought John Hamm was hilarious!
I'm all for the bizarre turn in SNL's humour. It's great.

Worst SNL in years. What's up with SNL's fascination with Mad Men? A show nobody's heard of gets three guest host appearances in a year? And then they continually recycle all that stupid Don Draper stuff. WORTHLESS! Ham & Buble--are you kidding? Jokes about names stopped being funny when we were six. Is this really the best that a major show can do?
