'In Treatment' Gabriel Byrne molested at age 11 by a Catholic priest

Irish actor Gabriel Byrne was molested as a child by a priest.
The "In Treatment" star revealed to an Irish television show, "The Meaning of Life," that he was molested when he was only 11 and studying to become a priest at a seminary school.
"Unfortunately, I experienced some sexual abuse," he said. "It was a known and admitted fact of life amongst us that there was this particular man, and you didn't want to be left in the dressing room with him."
"There were certain boundaries, sexual boundaries, that were crossed... I didn't feel that I suffered at the time.. It took many years to come to terms with it and to forgive those incidents that I felt had deeply hurt me."

"Again, I didn't think it severely impacted me at the time. But I suppose when I think about my later life, and how I had difficulties with certain issues, there is the real possibility they could have been attributable to that."
He also describes his long struggles with depression and alcoholism. To watch the entire interview, click here

Bravo Brave Byrne. I was emotionally, spiritually, and sexually abused by two Priests in 1976 for 4 years. I recently sued the Catholic Church and received a settlement. It has taken 30 years for me to be able to comprehend the attempted murder of my soul. My first abuser, Fr. Keith Pecklers, is the Worlds foremost authority of the Catholic Church. He is a Professor of Theology in Rome. Author of 8 books, his latest debuting this week...and the Vatican correspondent for ABC NEWS.
Why do some people find it necessary to 'bare all' in public.
Well Marjory, you might be giving GB more than is due. How do you know it was his decision to enter a seminary at age 11. Perhaps his parents made that decision for him. Perhaps he is trying to help others, but I must say over the years he has gotten a lot of millage out of complaining about being abused. This is nothing new about him. I've been reading about his complaints for a long time practically on a weekly basis. I sorry if I sound unfeeling, but I'm really getting tired of his yelping
