How much money did the US "Hope For Haiti Now" -- and last night's Canadian televised fundraiser -- raise?

In Canada, the money raised has been released, with CBC reporting $16 million, and News1130 saying that the telethon raised just over $9.4 million.

The differing reports come from the fact that $9.4 million was raised from English program "Canada for Haiti" and $6.8 million was raised from the French program "Ensemble For Haiti."

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper said that the amount raised will be matched dollar for dollar by the Canadian Government.

The amount for the United States telethon -- broadcast from Haiti, London, New York and Los Angeles has not been released yet.

The songs that were performed by celebrities during the two-hour telethon will be sold on iTunes. Proceeds from that will be included also. Educated guesstimates range from $10-20 million.

Fingers crossed for as much as possible. And a premature congratulations and thanks to everyone involved and everyone who donated money to this worthy cause.

Last night, NBA players got in on the action, pledging to donate $1000 per point scored in their Friday, Jan. 22 games. $127,000+ has been raised so far via that pledge.

Puerto Rico raised in a telethon 3.3 million.

The Netherlands raised 83 million in a telethon

It would be interesting to see a list of the personal donations from the celebrities who participated in the telethon.

I feel bad for Hati and I donated but it irks me how much Americans are giving yet so many could give a rats *** about their fellow Americans who are homeless, poor and sick. Why not text 5.00 to American charities while your at it.

Well mickey i can answer that one for you buddy. America has a stable government and everyone has an EQUAL opportunity to have an education. So therefore you can make your life out of what you choose! We shouldn't feel bad for people who slacked during their chance to make something out of their life!

Sorry, but I agree we need some of that money here in America. We have families homeless in america and believe that around 1.4 million are just children. Public school are shutting down. Teachers aren't paid well put we pay football players tons of money!! Wow, what we value. Entertainment! People losing there jobs an homes. Were in a recession.. Are goverment they're going broke a we speak! Healthcare is crap an no one gives a crap about the people who made them who they're. This country, is slowly becoming a third world country withn a couple of years.. Disease will be spread if we don't have a healthcare. Crime will increase if people aren't hiring. We have people who are murdered for one dollar in this country. When the american dollar isn't equal anywhere else. The haiti children an people do need help. Have celebrities just been blind about what is going on in, America?

I'm glad so many people opened up thier hearts and thier pocket books.I feel we all need to have compassion for our fellow beings,no matter where they live.No one should have to feel alone in thier suffering or thier need for help. This gives hope to all.

Mickey, shut up and let the people give to others who are going threw a hard time, i hope your giving to other Americans then, because you seem to care so much!

Americans have more opportunity than the people in Haiti. We have government support, homeless shelters, and the opportunity to work at a McDonalds. Do you think people have the opportunity to work in Haiti right now? And being as poor as they are, do you think they have government funding? America is not under ruble and does not smell like death right now, when it does, I hope that people would donate to America. That is why we are AMERICANS because we are not selfish to help other people, minus the few of you on here.
