obama-jean-biden-joe.jpgVice President Joe Biden led the mourners Tuesday morning at the funeral for his mother, Catherine Eugenia "Jean" Finnegan Biden. Jean passed away Friday, Jan. 8 at the age of 92. She had fallen seriously ill in the days leading up to her death.

The Obamas, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and former President Bill Clinton were among those in attendance at the funeral in Wilmington, DE. Biden eulogized his mother by calling her a "remarkable woman" who was "heroic in her ideals but solid in her expectations," according to CNN.

A myriad of other White House staff members, Cabinet members and members of Congress also attended the funeral. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton could not attend as she is currently traveling in the Pacific Rim.

Jean's husband Joseph Robinette Biden Sr. died in 2002. They were married 61 years. Joe Biden Jr. is the eldest of their children. Other survivors include sons James and Francis and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
