George Clooney organizes Haiti telethon, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie donate $1 million

George Clooney is hosting a telethon for Haiti on MTV Friday, Jan. 22, according to the Hollywood Reporter's Showbiz blog.The star mobilized at a party for "Up in the Air" on Wednesday night, asking Sting on the spot if he would perform. Sting merely asked, "Where do I go?"
Clooney has gotten MTV to agree to air the show on all their stations and has secured Joel Gallen, the man behind the Sept. 11 telethons, to produce the Haiti fundraiser.
Meanwhile, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie announced that their foundation is donating $1 million to Doctors Without Borders, whose hospitals were leveled by Monday's earthquake.
"We understand the first response is critical to serve the immediate needs of countless people who are now displaced from their homes, are suffering trauma, and most require urgent care," Pitt said in a statement.
We say well done to all of them and hope everyone will tune in to the telethon and donate whatever they can to help the impoverished country of Haiti in the aftermath of the earthquake.

$1 million is a lot of money even for the Jolie-Pitts. How much have you given? Brad and Angie will donate to several other causes throughout the year usually to the tune of 7-9 million for the year.
How much is George Clooney actually donating? Everyone praises him like he is the messiah but how much of his dough is he acutally forking over. All it talks about is how he will host a telethon. That is great but when he is asking people to donate when they themselves are struggling, we have a right to know how much he is actually giving to the cause.
He made 15 million dollars for Ocean's 13, he can do a lot more than host the telethon and that is all I have heard about his generous efforts. A lot of famous people have pledged money. It is time for George to do the same. He'll probably say he wants to donate "privately" but when you become the host of the telethon and are very well-off financially, we have a right to know what he donates.
I think ppl should stfu about what stars are giving. The fact that ANYBODY gives anything, is appreciated. Yes, I gave, and I am not famous, and no it wasn't a lot but it was what I could afford. Get off the backs of those that are actually helping. NOBODY has to do anything. People are helping out of a sense of compassion. Geez.

I agree with Stilettochyk also, I lost my job last year but still gave what I could. Haiti is our neighbor. If we stopped for one moment and had compassion for our neighbor right next door to where we live...this world would be a better place. Stop and care! The personal rewards are extraordinary!
