Conan O'Brien, NBC divorce: Triumph the Insult Comic Dog custody

Now that Conan O'Brien has agreed to walk away from NBC for a reported $45 mil, we have to wonder.... who gets the dog? Well dog is man's best friend, so The Dish Rag assumes he'll be sticking with his master Conan even after he bids adieu to the Peacock.

Triumph the Insult Comic Dog is performed by comedian Robert Smigel and debuted in 1997 on NBC's "Late Night with Conan O"Brien" in a skit about the Westminster Dog Show. According to The Wrap, Smigel will most likely continue to ask NBC permission to use Triumph on any post-NBC Conan show. Triumph continued to make appearances on "The Tonight Show" when O'Brien took over from Jay Leno.

The doggie certainly has supplied many laughs over the years. Who can forget Triumph's appearance with a clearly not amused rapper Eminem? Watch Conan explain what happened when they sent Triumph to the MTV Movie Awards.

Another legendary Triumph moment was with Bon Jovi at the band's New Jersey concert.

He knocked their lack of media ("People have come from as far away as exit 12!"), Jon Bon Jovi's foray into acting ("You're doing a vampire movie, yes? That's good. Finally a role that requires you to suck!") and even humped Richie Sambora's then-wife Heather Locklear's arm.

For his finale, he sang "You Give Love a Bad Name" with the band and his own words. "Here comes Bon Jovi, the pooping's begun!/ Look at you guys, have you no shame?/ You give poop, a bad name!"

Well we pray that Triumph will appear on Conan's new show, wherever (Fox?) and whenever (September?) that may be.

It's great that O'Briens talentless *** is leaving. No clue why NBC is paying for a tragic host but, It'll pay off for them. Letterman (the hypocrite, adulterer, and all round liar), will be religated to second place again only because there is no lower place in the market. Leno rules!!!!!!!!

certainly provokes comment, even if it is somewhat tasteless. Long live the next attempt at Late Night humor !

God, Jay...that's harsh.

Triumph is hilarious. it's a shame Smigel couldn't wrest control of the character for himself since it's all him really. **** NBC
