Chris Matthews on Obama: 'I forgot he was black'
The State of the Union address by President Obama on Wednesday night (Jan. 27) was received with a broad mix of reactions, but MSNBC's Chris Matthews probably made the comment that will be replayed the most.
"You know, I forgot he was black tonight for an hour," said Matthews.
Um, what?
It's all the context, of course. Matthews says that Obama has become a "post-racial" president. So the word choice could have been better. Later, Matthews had a chance to clarify himself to Rachel Maddow.
"I think he's done something wonderful," Matthews said. "I think he's taken us beyond black and white in our politics, wonderfully so, in just a year."

This is Chris Mathews the same guy who gets a tingly feeling in his legs when Obama speaks so I sure he was just still in awe an misspoke.
Mathews is a moron being fed what to say from his network. It doesn't matter what Obama says or does (or doesn't do), Mathews will wet his pants every time. The stimulus didn't work, unemployment is higher than 8% as promised, America doesn't want the crappy back door dealings resulting in this sham of a healthcare, yet Mathews sees this guy as the messiah. Obama has already gone back on campaign promises (earmarks, transparency, lobbyists, etc), yet somehow he is good for America. I watched a focus group made up of Dems, Repubs, and Independents. Those are the people that America should be listening to because they reflect how America thinks. Overwhelmingly, the focus group said they are tired of Obama's words not matching his actions and his excuse of Bush's fault is old and tired. Don't point the finger across the aisle when you have majorities in both houses of Congress and still can't pass anything.
Mathews is a robot who, like many in Washington, cannot think for themselves for fear of being questioned, or God forbid, not re-elected.
I 2nd Madman Mark
It was funny though how Obama wants to get rid of lobbyist yet he hires them for his administration. He wants to get rid of earmarks yet he has already signed bills full of earmarks. Instead of using the State of the Union as a campaign speech he needs to do is what he promised when he got elected. If he really wants people to believe him the 1st thing he need to do is fire all the lobbyist he has working for him!!!
Let's see ... 8 years to F up the country and we're all miffed that in 12 months things haven't magically gotten better. Try some perspective, Moron Mark.
Oh yeah, that Sarah Palin, she's a genius alright. I can see Russia from my backyard, too, by golly.
Just words
Just speeches.
Just lies.
As for MSNBC's bunch of morons, that explains their ratings.
EricinBH, 8 yrs to F up the country? You do recall that it was the GOP telling Congress to regulate the banking industry and they turned a deaf ear. You do recall Barney Frank saying that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were just fine, weeks before their collapse, yopu do recall that the economy took a turn for the worst AFTER Dems controlled both Houses beginning in 2006, you do recall ZERO terrorist attempts against the US after 9/11, yet Barry has had 4 in his first year AND mirandized the terrorist giving him the same rights as a US citizen.
I didn't expect much in 12 months other than Barry to keep his word. . . something he hasn't done.
Let me ask all you Obama-ites this. . . if he had said that I'm not sure if we can fix the economy? Would you have voted for him? What he says he can do, he cannot. What he says he will do, he does not. How can you freeze spending and then ask for a jobs bill? Where does the money come from? How do you inherit a $1.3T deficit and turn it into $14T and still blame GWB?
Is that perspective enough for you Eric?
thanks for telling it like it is, ERIC!! :)
God forbid ANYONE should disagree with Barry. . . then they are labeled as anti-American. If anyone can truly defend Barry's record in this first year, list his accomplishments, and tell me why we are better now than we were when he was elected, I welcome it. So far, I get Barry supporters blaming GWB, yet offer zero in substance to support their president.
Grow a pair people, if he is so good for America, tell me why and give me examples. I'm not closed-minded, but the facts I have listed are facts. I'm waiting. . .
