Billy Joel's daughter Alexa Ray blogs about 'heartbreak-related depression'

Alexa Ray Joel, just under a month removed from her hospitalization for an overdose on a homeopathic medicine called Traumeel, has opened up about her depression on her Myspace page. After revealing she asked for an old-fashioned typewriter for Christmas (we love the typewriter sounds too, Alexa!), she continues that she wants "to help young girls with something I feel I know a GREAT deal about: Heartbreak-Related Depression. Although it does not get much attention in our society, it is a very serious and painful condition that often gets "swept under the carpet". I hope to bring this topic more to light... I'm even going back to school for Psychology in hopes to learn more about this and many other afflictions that many of us have had to face."
We're glad that Alexa seems to be doing so much better. It sounds like Alexa has moved on and sought help and wants to help others in her position, which is a great thing to take away from her ordeal.

I did feel bad for her until I learned that the breakup occurred two years ago. Not exactly moving on in my book.

Sometimes a break up hurts even after two years. For some people it is just worse than for others.
You can't possibly know how bad it was for her. In my book, it doesn't matter why she did it, I just think it's nice that NOW she seems to have found a way to help someone and also herself

Kid looks more like her dad than her mom (not a good thing in this case) not exactly a musical talent like her father - so far.
Most likely got the depression 'gene' from dad who suffered from it.
Hey kid, go volunteer once every week at a homeless soup kitchen or mental health clinic or go tour Africa and see real hunger, sickness, etc.,
Practice your music or become a producer or talent scout.
At least you HAVE options, concentrate on the work and good deeds and maybe just MAYBE you'll find that special someone, when you stop wearing your heart on your sleeve and fall apart at the sign of a breakup.

What are you talking about? She looks great in that picture. Just because she's got famous parents and a big bank account doesn't mean she can't be depressed and unhappy. If she's finding ways to work through that, more power to her.
