Alyssa Milano's Haiti relief Twitter challenge still unmet

alyssa-milano-gi-250.jpgAlyssa Milano has put her money, time and tweets behind the Haiti earthquake relief efforts.

"I'm just at the point now where we just all have to love each other and help out in any way that we can," the former "Charmed" star told reporters Monday (Jan. 18) during an interview to promote her upcoming ABC sitcom "Romantically Challenged." "People who aren't affected in their heart are really subconsciously affected anyway. You can't take that many people off the planet and not have some vibrational change."

So what did Milano, 37, do? The day after the earthquake hit, she wrote a hefty check to help the recovery efforts and then posted to her Twitter account:

"Tweet challenge I just donated $50,000 to UNICEF for #Haiti relief. Which corporation will match my donation?"

So far, five days has passed, yet no one has picked up the gauntlet. The actress has used Twitter to great result before. After tweeting out a campaign for her charity, which brings clean water to the people in Ethiopia, her followers helped raise $92,568.

Milano has also witnessed upheaval worldwide.

"I'm an ambassador for UNICEF and have been since 2003," Milano explains. "I went to Angola only two years after the peace treaty was signed and to India six months after the tsunami, so not only have I been to places that are impoverished but I've also seen what violence and war does to an infrastructure and also what a natural disaster will do to an infrastructure.

"So for me, knowing a little bit of Haiti's violence and lawlessness in the past, it could not have been a harder territory to have been hit."

After the interview, Milano was heading to CNN to appear on the Larry King special "Haiti: How to Help" (8 p.m. ET) alongside a slew of other celebrities to generate support for UNICEF and the Red Cross.

As for Friday's mega telethon "Hope for Haiti," Milano's work schedule might conflict with her attendance. Her sitcom "Romantically Challenged" will hold its first table read that day, the essential first step for actors, writers and producers to get a feel for how a script will actually play out.

In the ABC pilot, Milano is introduced as Rebecca, a recently divorced mom of two who re-enters the dating scene along with her two best male friends Perry and Shawn (Kyle Bornheimer, Josh Lawson) and younger sister Lisa (Kelly Stables).

"We start work that day, so I don't know if it's going to work, but they have reached out, so we'll see," says Milano. "I'll definitely be there if I can."

In the meantime, we're hoping a successful company will step up to the plate and match her generosity.

Wow, $50,000 from Alyssa Milano....how generous. That money for her is like the equivalent of the average person donating $5. Why doesn't she just meet her donation and donate another 450,000. She can afford it and if she realllyyyyyy cares like she's saying she does, she will. BUT, the answer is really that she just wants to ALWAYS make herself look good in any way possible.
Brand and Angelina donating 1 million! Now that's something to talk about. They're not broadcasting that around either. Another thing...Alyssa...you think you're so good hearted, god bless this, god bless that...oh the children. But then you go and make fun an italian american from a tv show. Maybe that's who those people are, there's nothing wrong with that. It shows how you think you're the center of the ******* world but haven't done **** since who's the boss that hasn't involved your ****, *** and fake teeth.

Rebecca, there's no need to be cruel. Alyssa is a sweetheart. Save your venom for folks that deserve it. I'm givin' you a big hug and hoping that your mood turns around. By the way, Alyssa's "Charmed" DVDs are available everywhere. And I know you will be watching "Romantically Challenged". xoxoxo

Rebecca, that's quite a statement that $50k isn't a big enough donation, simply because Alyssa is a celebrity. Alyssa gives very generously to a number of causes. You're right in that she has money and she could be lying on the beach doing nothing for the rest of her life; but she chooses not to. Brad and Angelina's CHARITY gave $1M, after collecting donations from many other people and now deciding that this is an appropriate cause to donate so generously to. If it's such a measly amount of money, why hasn't a single CORPORATION matched the amount? The NHL only gave $100k, so $50k as a personal donation is significant. $1 is significant; it doesn't matter how much a person makes, it's how much they give. If one percent of the population were as generous as Alyssa, the world would be a very different place. Think before you comment about her teeth and the fact that she is a proud Italian and stand up for her heritage.

Maybe Ms. Milano -has- donated more than $50K. She's using the $50K to get other people involved in donating--specifically corporations. If she'd donated $1million or more, no companies would be willing to donate, guaranteed.

Personally, I don't really find this forum appropriate for character assassinations when, really, what we should be doing is banding together to help. Love her or hate her, she's affecting change for a cause. What are you doing?

Rebecca, you say that $50k is like $5 to her. I bet you haven't even donated $5 of your own money to the disaster. Instead of wasting your time and energy to bash Alyssa, why don't you use that up towards donating your time to help other people out. Stop hatin.

I can't believe that someone could look at Alyssa Milano's $50,000 dollar donation and be negative. It's not always about the money at the end of the day, by her announcing and publicizing her donation and makeing a 'tweet challenge' from it, shes properly influenced many others to give too. To be frank, she didn't have to give or do anything, she's not Haitian or a real mega mega-millionaire. She's obviously just a genuinely caring person, who instead of tweeting random stuff about herself or 'trying to make herself look good' she's created a way to raise funds for Haiti. And if she really wanted to publicize 'herself' she would have talked all about her new sitcom, not the Haitian earthquake wouldn't she? It's like when she donated $3,700 to her 'My Charity:Water' campaign, which ended up raising like $100,000.
At least there are people like her around, who take attention away from creeps like 'Rebecca'.

I, for one, am proud of Alyssa. For standing up and not only getting involved, but is trying to get others to stand up and do what right as well. @Rebecca.. I seriously doubt those affected in Haiti are sitting around saying "omg, she only gave us $50,000??" I'm sure, rather, they would appreciate every penny.

What the hell is wrong with people...a good deed is good deed no matter what the action does for a person's reputation or soul. You're jealous because Alyssa Milano is 37 and hotter than you've ever been your whole life. eat a **** Rebecca. By the way I love you Alyssa and your involvement with OSIA and NIAF-Thank you for everything and holding Italian Americans to better values than suporting Jersey Shore Personalities. (Not that it isn't comical, just not the right message to kids of the future.)

Alyssa's income very likely puts her in the top income tax bracket, 35%. She'll write off the $50,000 at the end of the year, which will save her $17,500 in taxes. She really donated $32,500.

Rebecca who the **** or you to say something like that about Alyssa Milano she has more caring in her little finger then you have in your whole body and how much of Brad and Angelina owe money went to haiti by the way at least she gave what the hell did you give all you do is sit around bashing someone like Alyssa Milano who does care about people you dont know what the hell Alyssa Milano did and further more at least she has a heritage not a mutt like you maybe she just proud of her Italian heritage and what **** is wrong with that
