To Sirs, with Love: Patrick Stewart, Peter Jackson become knights
Actor Patrick Stewart and director Peter Jackson have been knighted in England and New Zealand, respectively. Queen Elizabeth II also sanctions the New Zealand honors, stemming from the country's start as a British colony. "Lord of the Rings" director Peter Jackson said of knighthood, "I didn't think anything would surpass the 2004 Academy Awards, but I was wrong."
Previously knighted celebrities include Agatha Christie, Ralph Fiennes, Ian McKellan, Liam Neesen, Olivia Newton-John, J.K. Rowling and Maggie Smith. Bono and Steven Spielberg have honorary knighthoods.
Congratulations, Sir Patrick and Sir Peter.

Okay, I've NEVER heard of Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson (with an 'o' not an 'e') being knighted (and I'm a pretty avid follower of both) nor have I heard of J.K. Rowling or Olivia Newton-John becoming Dames. J.K. Rowling was made a knight of the Legion of Honour in France, which is similar, but not entirely the same. Perhaps we should check our facts a bit closer next time?
Anyway, what a marvelous honour for both Peter and Patrick (I am a New Zealander myself, so this is a moment of patriotic pride for me). I congratulate the both of them.
