Bryant Gumbel reveals lung cancer battle on 'Regis and Kelly'

Grab that cup of joe. Bryant Gumbel dropped a bombshell on his "Live! with Regis and Kelly" co-host Tuesday morning.
The 61-year-old sportscaster and TV host told Kelly Ripa that he had major surgery for cancer two months ago.
"They opened up my chest. They took a malignant tumor and they took a part of my lung and some other goodies," said Gumbel.
The morning conversation had begun innocently enough. Ripa was trying to encourage Gumbel, who was subbing for Regis Philbin, to learn a few steps from an upcoming guest, "Dancing With the Stars" pro Julianne Hough.
"I can't dance," said Gumbel. "I can't. I have a note from my doctor."
The full explanation came then that Gumbel had only told select people, even keeping the information from his staff at "Real Sports." Well, quite a few more people know now.
Although Gumbel says he's "okay for the time being," he'll be seeking additional treatment to make sure all the cancerous cells have been eradicated.
So far, Gumbel looks to be doing well. We wish him the best!
