Brittany Murphy's dad 'mystified' at her death

Brittany Murphy's father says he "still cannot believe" that his daughter is dead.

"I'm totally mystified that Brittany could die so young," Angelo Bertolotti tells Radar. "There is a police investigation currently going on, and I hope it will provide some answers because I'm totally shocked by her death."


Bertolotti and Murphy's mother, Sharon, split when Murphy was young, and he says he wasn't in close contact with his daughter.

"The last time I met my daughter was about eight years ago when we had a meal in Los Angeles together before I moved back to Florida," Bertolotti says. "She could be demanding but she was a very talented person who always worked hard ever since she was a child, and she was really close with her mom. Sometimes she would buy me small gifts, and I'm sad that we had not spoken much in the last few years."

Bertolotti says he hasn't made a decision about attending Murphy's funeral but hopes the investigation into her death will provide answers about what happened: "I'm sitting waiting for a phone call with more information."
