'Avatar': Sigourney Weaver stands tall at Hollywood premiere

On the "Avatar" red carpet, star Sigourney Weaver reminded us all once again just how tall she really is. In fact, Sigourney's height is part of what landed her the "Avatar" role. Director James Cameron told the UK Press Association:

I knew she was a tall girl, I was thinking about her shoes - if she's wearing tall heels she's going to be this domineering personality and I'm going to be in for a rough ride. And if she's wearing flats, she's self-conscious about her height. She was actually wearing like a middle heel and I thought, 'OK, this is going to work fine. She's going to be strong, she's going to be bold, but she's not going to be completely out of control.'

Sigourney added, "I had forgotten about that, [I'm] almost avatar size."

For the record, the Pandora natives in "Avatar" are 10 ft tall and Sigourney Weaver stands at 5'11 -- not exactly a sasquatch, she just looks really tall because actors and actresses tend to run on the small side.

"Avatar" opens nationwide on Friday, Dec. 18.
