Sofia Vergara's rape joke on 'The View' not so funny
"Modern Family" star Sofia Vergara found out the hard way that off-the-cuff jokes about rape -- that "might" work on her dry sitcom -- lose something in translation on "The View."
She was just kidding around when she tried to explain how she could possibly have an 18-year-old-son with a flippant "I was raped at 13."
Poor Whoopi Goldberg practically choked on her own epiglottis (that's that tiny thing at the base of your throat) as Barbara Walters gamely tried to carry on.
What do you think? Is this joke in bad taste anywhere, or did she just not know her audience?

yeah - that definitely did not sound good - i think she was trying to translate it from Spanish, which even though the word "rape" is not a laughing matter, it has a double meaning when used in a jokingly matter (in Spanish) and it seems that is what she was trying to do, but did not come across that way - basically, "lost in translation". She should have known better......

Maybe she was referring to a previous episode when Whoopi claimed that Roman Polanski's rape of a thirteen year old wasn't "rape rape". That comment was stupider.
She was on Chelsea Handler a few weeks ago, man she is as stupid as a bag of rocks.
Julie Boren was on her show last night, she says Vergara is not only dumb, she can't remember Julie's name, she is also insulting to all, except them men who drool over her chest.
She makes Sarah Palin look bright.

Sofia should apologize, and, while explaining the cultural perception of the joke in Spanish, still genuinely be contrite.
It was also unprofessional for her to not know her costar's name. But for those bashing her excessively: first, the name is Julie BOWEN. Second, Sofia was three years in dental school before being discovered. She's well-read, having read cien anos de soledad at age 11. That doesn't necessarily make a person brilliant, but she's not just a dumb bimbo.
