Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal reportedly split

Reese Witherspoon and Jake Gyllenhaal have broken up after two years as a couple.

That's the word, anyway, from People, which cites a "source close to the actress" as saying that Witherspoon, 33, and Gyllenhaal, 28, have split. The mag has no other details.

Gyllenhaal and Witherspoon co-starred in the 2007 movie "Rendition" and soon were the subject of speculation that they were together off-screen as well. Their relationship included trips to Paris and Morocco, as well as a lot of weekends with Witherspoon's two children at her home in Ojai, Calif.

Earlier this year brought a swirl of rumors that the couple was engaged. Those rumors were never confirmed, and now it looks like a moot point anyway.
