'American Idol's' Jon Peter Lewis: Adam Lambert? Artist schmartist

What is art? Adam Lambert's performance on the American Music Awards sure wasn't according to Jon Peter Lewis.

Jon Peter Who? Oh yeah, the Hobbit. We forgot too until we looked him up.

Lewis, an "American Idol" Season Three finalst who finished eighth and was praised for his vocals, is taking issue with many who defend Lambert's racy AMA perforamnce, calling it art.

"All this nonsense about Adam Lambert's whole project being art is bogus," he tells Us. "That idea is absurd. It's like calling Thomas Kinkade art. What a sham."

Um, well, some would definitely call Kinkade an artist, so what exactly are you saying, Jon Boy?

Other former "Idol" contestants are more supportive, including Season One's gay Jim Verraros and Season Five's Kevin Covais (aka Chicken Little).

"I see no reason why [Adam] should be punished by ABC," says Covais.

Good for JPL speaking up for what's decent...which Adam is most certainly not.

The simulated oral sex went way across the line. That's not an issue of gay or straight. Adam actually hurts the gay cause by both kissing a guy (which might make some cringe but is totally fair if we live in an equal world--and an appropriate debate to have) and doing this totally inappropriate oral-sex gesture (which would be unacceptable if it were a woman putting her face in the guy's crotch on broadcast television). Too bad.

JPL... my dear boy, Kinkade most definately IS art. He's a painter, thus an artist. What would make you think he isn't one or what he produces isn't art?

I guess everyone is an artist. Who hasn't painted SOMETHING? Whether it's drek or not is unimportant, apparently.

If Adam Lambert doesn't care ahout offemding people as an artist, then he shouldn't have auditioned for American Idol, because the show is about finding a mainstream pop superstar, of which Kely Clarkson and Carrie Underwood are, and of which he is not.
