'Twilight: New Moon' Robert Pattinson: vampire saga is a metaphor for abstinence
Abstinence is sexy? Levi Johnston may not agree. But Robert Pattinson thinks it's true."Twilight: New Moon" star Pattinson believes the success of the vampire saga is that it shows that abstinence --- or perhaps longing -- can be sexy.
"Twilight is a big metaphor for sexual abstinence, and yet it's erotic underneath. There are so many elements in the story which are sexy," Pattinson told The Daily Telegraph.
Stephenie Meyer's tale of a teenage girl who falls for a vampire launched as a series of best-selling books. Now the films are breaking box office records by appealing to young girls sexual awakenings and romantic longing.

The British actor Pattinson says that the chaste relationship between Bella and Edward is the secret.
"The success of the 'Twilight' books comes from the fact that fans can lust after Edward and yet, certainly in the first book, there's no actual sexual contact between him and the series heroine," Pattinson explains.
OK, I'm not at all sure that their teenage fans are thinking about NOT making out with Pattinson or Taylor Lautner. But it's a real good theory. And it will definitely make a lot of parents very happy.
Do you agree with R-Patz? Is "Twilight's" appeal about abstinence and unquenched lust? Or do you just want to rip their clothes off?

I totally agree with Pattinson and hurray for him to bring this to light. Edward denies his urges because he loves Bella so very much! Sad that more men are not like him in our culture, and sad that women allow themselves to be used to the means to men's own end. Personally, I feel that women should never settle for anything less and a man of Edward's liking. Take care!
true...but what about Breaking Dawn? it has sex on every other page and bella gets pregnant within the first third of the book
...and what about sex being "the epitome of human existence", the only reason to be human! - this is stated repeatedly by Bella particularly in Breaking Dawn.
The difference is that they get married at the beginning of Breaking Dawn, so they are having sex within the context of marriage at that point--which I think is a great change from typical teenage movies and books.
I think the way Edward is portrayed as "old-fashioned" and wanting to wait until marriage is so refreshing. (He is like 100 yrs old or something, after all!) I think the love story between Edward and Bella is beautiful and I would love to see more men in real life act like Edward.
He's absolutely right. Robert, not the moron author. Can this website not hire decent writers? It's getting ridiculous...
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! bella gets pregnat but it's after they get married!!! so is there something wrong with that??
This is Mormon propaganda.
Vampires are cold, weird, and appealing to gullible folks just like Mormons are. The lead human character struggles with her decision to join the cult, but ultimately she does.
What a bogus story. It is only about 1/1000th as bizarre as the LDS church, though.
look at the beautiful girl.I remmeber a web site******www.cougarlure.com****where we can make a appiontment with millionair women for free, just cool.you may find your best friend or cougar.you can have a try
I think he is absolutely right, the longing that Bella feels throughout the book adds to the attraction of Edward Cullen. The self control he shows is a great example to guys everywhere. Look around you, what girls are not in love with Edward, take a leaf out of his book guys and maybe you'll get somewhere. I'm not saying when we go and watch the movies we're all thinking about abstinance, but it definately is a major theme that contirbutes to the emotion in the books. I don't understand the problem with sex after marriage, isnt that what pretty much every parent wants their children to hold out for? and even better than that sex with the guy you are crazy about, her one true love, isnt that the best person to lose it to? I love the character of Edward Cullen, he's the perfect gentleman, with the danger and protection that most girls dream of, at least i do.
