"They're taking a break," an insider told "Extra," adding that it may not be permanent.

After a recent sit-down with famed Rabbi Shmuley Boteach (who also advised Michael Jackson (so we know this guy is really good at getting people to give up addictions to women or medications), Gosselin "apparently decided he needed to spend some time on his own," the source told "Extra."

On his own? Yeah, that'll be the day.
