Did SNL's Celebrity Family Feud with the John Phillips clan go too far?
Anyone watch last weekend's "Saturday Night Live," hoping that Lady Gaga and Ryan Reynolds would do better than U2 and Megan Fox? (BTW, they did.)
Then maybe you also caught the SNL Celebrity Family Feud skit with the Osmond family and the John Phillips family.
Ouch.
"What do you keep for a long time? was the first question.
"Secrets!," offered John Phillips with a zoned-out daughter Mackenzie Phillips standing next to him.
Another question was "Things you do with your father?"
"Can I get back to you in thirty years?," Mackenzie asked. "Okay, then sports."
Towards the end, Mackenzie's brother mentions how John and Mackenzie play sports by themselves, just the two of them, at a hotel.
What do you think of this SNL skit?
Incredibly bad taste or just too soon?
Or both.
More Mackenzie Dish:
Phillips family is fighting over Mackenzie's admission about sex with her dad.
John Phillips' pal Davy Jones: "If I'd known about it, I would have killed John"
Chynna and Mackenzie to appear on "Oprah" on Friday afternoon!
Michelle Phillips calls Mackenzie Phillips mentally ill.
Mackenzie Phillips claims that after her abortion, she never let her father touch her
Chynna Phillips believes Mackenzie Phillips is telling the truth.
MacKenzie talks to Oprah about her dad shooting her up with cocaine for the first time.

I couldn't believe it. I had no choice but to turn it off. Very sad. I am a long time SNL fan. I was astounded at how insensitive to the millions of kids who have been abused. It's a low day for them. A low day for their writers and the cast.
Did SNL go to far?!?! SNL???!!! Mac wants to make some money, so she decides to write a book. In order to sell that book she reveals she had a 10 year consenual sexual relationship with her father. Then as part of her whirlwind book tour, she allows herself to be exploited by the likes of Oprah & Larry King. And you want to know if SNL went too far?!? Give me a break & while your at it find another rock for Ms. Phillips to crawl back under...
I wouldn't say it went too far, but I would say it went too long. Bitting dark humor and then jokes about how dumb/unknown the other Osmonds are?
Yes they went to far.
I will never watch that show again. This is a very complex issue, not a joke.
Mackenzie never ONCE tried to state that she had no responsibility.
It has been cofirmed by others. I have worked with child abuse, child sexual abuse and rape victims for over 20 years.
Mackenzie was ready to tell her story when she was strong enough not to be afriad of fragmenting her family.
All these strong "anti" reactions are simply a coping mechanism for those that do not want to deal with a real and disturbing fact of society.
By making such a joke out of it SNL reinforced fear of ever exploited woman. Remember he started her on drugs when she was 11.
Do some research!
For those of you who think thins is "all about money", you obviously are not educated enough what you are talking about. If you were you would listen to her interviews and to what she is actually saying. You might even understand the complexities of an unequal power relationship.
I am sure you all feel sorry for the "tragic" Heath Ledger overdose - drug addict"
Robert Downey Jumior - Drug addict_
Old, deaf Rush Limbaugh -drug addict.
Michael Jackson "Jesus Juice" anyone? - Drug addict-
Probablly even John Phillips, Michelle Phillips and Bijou...al admitted druggies in the past.
Hmmmm Maybe they were the "good" kind of druggies? The kind that tried to keep it hidden.
Yes, it was horrid, but SNL hasn't been even slightly funny this year. Not much last year either.
I'm so tired of all your psycho-babble. Nothing is text book about this. This is a desperate person looking for the attention she never had with her father. Since when is it okay to accuse someone of something when the other person isn't around to defend themselves? All you experts out there.......Why would you take the word of someone who has always claimed sobriety, when she wasn't? You obviously have your own issues you need to deal with. You should all get matching couches.
There is a thin line between comedy and tragedy. As a comedy show (whether actually funny or not) SNL's job is to show the humor in a dark situation. Doesn't make it any less tragic. I don't know if Mackenzie is being truthfull or not, but the fact remains John Phillips had an inappropriate relationship with his kids by introducing them to drugs, sharing it , and providing it to them.
John Phillips was scum. Michelle Phillips even admitted in the past how drugs were flying around when Mac was young. All she knew was dysfunction. I person comes out with their past when they are ready. John Phillips also pretended to be straight when he was not. He also pleaded and got a new liver and then announced how he still drank. Someone died while he continued to drink. His ex and current wives stick up for him because they would have to take some responsibility for his actions to his kids. I suppose we would have no history books if all the subjects were to be alive to defend themselves. Maybe with getting all of this out she will be able to stay sober. And this skit was not even funny let alone sensitive. Since when did mental illness become such a comedy. John Phillips had no sensitivity at all and neither does SNL. You could hear the force laughter coming from the audience.
