David Letterman can dish the Top 10s, but can he take them?

Davidletterman_courtneylove When it comes to skewering his guests and other pop culture figures, David Letterman has got it down. But what about when his tools of the trade are turned on him?

Though he managed to make his tale of would-be extortion into an "aw shucks, can you believe it?" parable (or at least his writing staff did; we hear they're close), if he's like every other thin-skinned celebrity out there, he probably hopes that will be the end of it.

Not so fast, Dave. The Top 10 lists are coming at ya. Including Zap2it's assertion that Letterman "wanted to show Bill Clinton how it's done," and that he hears "Lady Gaga likes the bad boys."

Oh, Dave. Take it on the chin, buddy. At least you don't have a rumored sex tape with Sarah Silverman and Jimmy Kimmel floating around.

Or do you?

No.1) of top ten thing's to do with the exstornionist:Tie 2 million dollar's of sack's of pennie's around his waist, throw him in the east river and see if he float's.

I've been watching Dave's late night and late show programs since the 80s and he is an insecure man to the core. An insecure man with money will always have more options and easier access to women. While the extortionist is a criminal, Dave is just creepy.

Wonder if Dave consulted with Clinton after their last interview on how to handle his current sexual exploits?! tee hee

Now what kind of boss is he for goodness sake??? Obviously a male chauvinist - a guy who cheats on his wife, you know what I mean, don't you - a louse, a woman hater, the lowest of the low, etc.....

My goodness me he sounds like a blooming hero doesn't he, as he confesses all to stop a CBS colleague cheating on him in an extortion set-up.

Now how does he talk his way out of this one, honey?

I think we all get stuck sometimes when the lies we have told catch up with us, but David bites the apple, and turns everything to his advantage, doesn't he? Here's a guy who is a real producer, but is he?

How long will his superiors keep him on set? Is he one hot potato? Or is he a schmuck?

I wonder at these guys who wash with soap don't you?

I don't get this. Since when the Birkitt affaire occurred Letterman was single this doesn't seem to rise to the level of scandal. Unless, of course, Birkitt claims that Letterman used his position to coerce her into sex and either threatened her or promoted her (the "quid pro quo", if there was one). So far she hasn't claimed anything, and it's been a few years. It seems to be well known that Letterman has had previous girlfriends who were part of the Late Show production staff. Unless there is some other bombshell in the package that Halderman left, I don't see the problem, other than it is embarrassing to someone who has tended to be fairly private about his life, especially since he's admitted it. Maybe 20 or 30 years ago this might have raised eyebrows, but times and attitudes are different now and Dave is an "late night" entertainer, not a "family values" politician.

I always thought Letterman was a scumbag. Now I know why.

Really a lot of fuss about nothing - if there was not so much hypocrisy around the blackmailer would have had no leverage whatsoever. It's peculiar how some people seem to be able to be serial adulters and philanderers (rock stars for example) and others are expected to behave like Trappost monks so as not to shock the ratings. Letterman is obviously taking a risk as far as his career is concerned but as long as there was no harrassment involved or promises of promotion etc... I can't see what all the fuss is about. When will people ever stop cheating on each other ? Never I suspect.

What a mess. It's time for Letterman to leave. He's had a good run. Now make way for Craig Ferguson, a major talent who deserves the time slot at last...

@ maduceone -- Letterman had been with his wife for 23 years before he finally married her! He admits to cheating on to thwart a blackmail scheme. He's a self-absorbed punk, no better than a politician or a public figure caught with his (or her) pants down! When someone cheats on you, maybe you will get it!
