Stephanie Birkitt's diary reportedly reveals affair with David Letterman while living with Joe Halderman

Joe-halderman

Well, things are getting stickier in David Letterman's public sex scandal.

And he may have some more 'splainin' to do.

According to her diary, "Late Show" staffer Stephanie Birkitt was still having sex with her boss when she was living with her CBS-producer boyfriend Joe Halderman.

This is sourced to the New York Post, which reports she left her Joe home in Connecticut when she and Letterman went on hikes last fall at his eastern Montana ranch.

But she continued to tell Joe that she and Letterman had a platonic relationship and she was his "best friend."

Halderman exploded when he read Birkitt's diary in December, the Post's sources said.

We have a feeling there will be even more sordid details to emerge.

According to our New York sources, Letterman's longtime affairs with staffers were common knowledge in the TV and media world.

Makes you feel a bit sorry for Joe Halderman, doesn't it?

Nothing like being cuckolded by a rich and famous celebrity to get your dander up. We're not saying extortion is the way to go.

But we can certainly understand his anger. Can you?

Ugh. The idea of sex with either one of those old men is so gross.

No, I do not understand his anger.
I understand that he broke the law. David Letterman is not the first person on the planet to have a(n)affair(s). Secondly, diaries went out in the 70's and diaries are personal.

Absolutely makes it a different story. Letterman's tale to the public implying that he was blackmailed out of the blue at arm's length is dishonest. Instead, the "blackmailer" is someone who found out Letterman had recently been sleeping with his girlfriend, as they lied to him about it; the week after she moved out on him, he tried to get revenge on the bastard. It isn't about money, it is a fight between two men about a woman. Much more forgivable. In this story, the two men are close to equally culpable. And since Letterman knew who Halderman was, he could have told him to buzz off, rather than sending his lover's boyfriend to jail.

This is where Letterman loses me.

this is so good.! letterman makes fun of young kids like Palin family and now the whole nation is having a good time about him..! je je je

I disagree with the post and many of the comments because I don't see how this information is additionally damning of Letterman at all. It was Stephanie who lied to Joe, not Dave. If anyone, he should be mad at her, not the celebrity. Further, I can't fathom how Dave should have done anything other than go to the police. $2 million is not a simple disagreement; it's major stuff. It completely precludes any amicable settlement. Joe wasn't trying for a base hit, he went for the home run and ended up striking out.

There is an old expression that describes perfectly what Dave was doing: cockblocking
